Roddy White WR ATL 5 Days

White caught three balls for 34 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans.

White will likely sit out the final preseason game Thursday, and it appears he'll enter the 2014 regular season with a clean bill of health. Injuries riddled his 2013 campaign, but White should be in line for a huge season if he can stay healthy. He'll lose targets to Julio Jones at times, but he'll also get the benefit of working against fewer double teams.

White was given the day off Thursday, so his absence was nothing more than an extra day of rest for veteran wideout, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

White suffered through a slew of injuries during his 2013 campaign, so the Falcons want to do everything in their power to ensure he enters this season with a clean bill of health. He is expected to play Saturday in Atlanta's second preseason game.

White caught four passes for 27 yards on four targets in Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins.

With Julio Jones (foot) held out, White caught four of Matt Ryan's seven passes on the first-team offense's only drive. Jones is clearly ready to supplant White as the team's top receiver (if he hasn't already), but there should be more than enough targets for both, now that Tony Gonzalez is retired. Even when Gonzalez was around, the Falcons never had much issue keeping both White and Jones involved, when they were healthy at the same time.

ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure expects the team to try and hammer out a contract extension with Roddy White before training camp next week.

The Falcons open camp next Friday. White is entering the final year of his deal. At 32 years old, he's not going to command significant money. But another 2-3 years with $8-10 million guaranteed seems realistic. White is still on top of his game, as he reeled in 38 passes for 449 yards and two touchdowns over the final four games last season. He has WR1/2 upside in a pass-heavy offense.

Roddy White says he and Julio Jones are "going to be there to play in the party" as the top receiver duo in the league this season.

"I feel like me and Roddy, we're the best when we step on the field," Jones said. "We take it as a challenge every year: We want to go out and show everybody we're the best one-two in the league." Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery claimed the title last season, combining for 2,716 yards and 19 touchdowns on 189 grabs. The year before, White and Jones combined for a 171-2,549-17 line. Both Falcons receivers are prime bounce-back candidates, and Julio should even be in the mix for No. 1 overall receiver when all is said and done.

NFL.com reports the Falcons are expected to hammer out a contract extension with Roddy White before training camp.

Talks were expected to heat up after the draft, but were delayed following the murder of White's half brother. Although White suffered through injury for the first time in his career last season, he finished strong. A deal should get done in relatively short order.

Extension negotiations between the Falcons and Roddy White are expected to pick up.

White, who is 32 and entering the final year of his contract, is set to count $6.35 million against the cap. An extension would both lower that number and keep the career-Falcon happy. ESPN's Vaughn McClure suggests a deal similar to the one Reggie Wayne signed in March of 2012 at age 33: Three years, $17.5 million with $7.5 million guaranteed.

The Falcons are meeting with the agents for Roddy White on Saturday to discuss a possible contract extension.

White is currently set to make $6.34 million in the final year of his contract, so the Falcons are looking to sign him to an extension that would allow him to end his career in Atlanta and also lower his cap hit. Coming off an injury-marred 2013 and entering his age 33 season, he could be willing to accept a team-friendly deal. White had 63 catches, 711 yards, and three touchdowns in 13 games this past season, grading out as just the No. 91 receiver by Pro Football Focus.
