Rodgers (Achilles) recently told the Look Into It Podcast that he hopes to play 2-4 more years in the NFL, per John Breech of CBS Sports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodgers hinted at a multi-year commitment when he was traded to the Jets last offseason, with his contract supporting that notion via full guarantees for his compensation in 2023 and 2024. He famously played just four snaps in the first season before tearing his left Achilles' tendon, and he was unable to return even with an aggressive rehab plan. Rodgers did practice with the Jets toward the end of the season -- including as the first-team QB in Week 18 -- but wasn't able to resume sprinting at full strength before the conclusion of the campaign. He previously mentioned wanting to play two more years beyond 2023, and even in the recent podcast interview he acknowledged he'd need "good fortune" to make it three or four more seasons. Rodgers turned 40 in December and should be back at full strength for the start of the Jets offseason program this spring.

Rodgers (Achilles) led the Jets' first-team offense in the final three practices of the season, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodgers didn't return to game action after tearing his Achilles just four snaps into his Jets tenure, but he was activated from injured reserve down the stretch, allowing him to practice with the team. After running the scout team and working at less than full speed in his first few weeks back, Rodgers quarterbacked the first-team offense for the last three practices, which were closed to the media. His teammates raved about Rodgers' performances in the final three practices, suggesting the veteran quarterback's Achilles is at or close to full health heading into the offseason.

Rodgers (Achilles) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday but won't play in any more games this season, ESPN.com's Rich Cimini reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodgers wouldn't have been able to continue practicing if the Jets had left him on injured reserve beyond Wednesday. It's probably the first time a player has come back from IR with no intention of playing in games; the Jets want Rodgers to get more work with many of the players that will block for him or catch passes from him next season. Zach Wilson (concussion) or Trevor Siemian will start Sunday's game against the Commanders.

Head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that the Jets plan to activate Rodgers (Achilles) from injured reserve, but the veteran quarterback won't be cleared to play for any of the team's final three games of the season. for the veteran QB to continue to practice as part of his injury rehab process.
EDGE Analysis
Though Rodgers will be added back to the 53-man roster for the first time since Week 1, he'll likely be inactive now that New York has been eliminated from playoff contention. The Jets are activating Rodgers solely for the purpose of allowing him to continue practicing with the team as part of his rehab process for his surgically repaired left Achilles' tendon. Saleh has yet to confirm a starting quarterback for this Sunday's game against the Commanders, but if Zach Wilson is unable to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, Trevor Siemian would be in store for his first start with the Jets.

Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that it's unlikely that he'll be activated from injured reserve this week, which would end his 2023 season, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
In most similar circumstances, a player returning to action just 14 weeks removed from surgery to repair a torn Achilles would be out of the realm of possibility, but Rodgers has been on an accelerated rehab that included throwing before a Week 6 win versus the Eagles, getting designated for return from IR on Nov. 29 and logging back-to-back practices the last two weeks. Rodgers noted Tuesday that he won't be 100 percent for another 3-to-4 weeks, so it's apparent that Saturday's report from Adam Schefter of ESPN that the quarterback was slated to be medically cleared this week was overly optimistic. With Zach Wilson in the concussion protocol at the moment, the Jets may have to roll with Trevor Siemian under center Sunday against the Commanders.

Rodgers (Achilles) is in line to receive medical clearance to play this coming week, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since Rodgers tore his left Achilles four offensive plays into the season back on Sept. 11 against the Bills, he's embarked on an unprecedented recovery effort. He was spotted throwing on the field before a Week 6 win against the Eagles, which he did multiple times until the Jets designated him for return from injured reserve Nov. 29. Rodgers has been able to practice for three weeks in a row at this point, logging work in back-to-back sessions the last two weeks. New York needs a win Sunday at Miami to keep its faint playoff hopes alive, and if that comes to pass, Rodgers seemingly could find himself back on the Jets' active roster by midweek. Whether or not he's allowed to play in a game remains to be seen, but his stated goal has been a return for a Week 16 matchup with the Commanders on Sunday, Dec. 24. As long as Rodgers is sidelined, though, Zach Wilson will continue to direct the offense.

Rodgers (Achilles) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Miami, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since Rodgers was designated for return from injured reserve Nov. 29, he's been listed as limited on six of nine Jets practice reports, including both Thursday and Friday this week. The team will need to make a decision on activating him from IR by the middle of next week, which may be contingent on winning Sunday's key AFC East matchup. In the end, it seems highly unlikely that Rodgers will complete his quick rehab from the torn Achilles that he sustained back in Week 1 and be able to play before season's end, but there's still a small chance of that coming to pass. New York will continue to roll with Zach Wilson under center moving forward.

Rodgers (Achilles) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
The 5-8 Jets kept their faint playoff hopes alive with a win over the Texans last Sunday, so at least for one more week, Rodgers will continue his accelerated rehab program for his surgically repaired left Achilles with the hope of making an improbable late-season return. Before he resumed practicing Nov. 29, Rodgers implied that he was targeting the Week 16 game against the Commanders on Dec. 24 for his return to the lineup, but even if the Jets are able to score another upset win over the Dolphins this Sunday, it's unclear if the four-time league MVP will realistically be able on a path to play one week later. Rodgers has thus far been listed as a limited participant five times in the Jets' eight practices since he had his 21-day evaluation window opened, and in his most recent appearance Tuesday on "The Pat McAfee Show," the 40-year-old quarterback downplayed reports suggesting that he was on track to be medically cleared next week, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. As such, Zach Wilson appears more likely than not to make the Week 16 start versus the Commanders, regardless of the outcome of Sunday's game in Miami.

Rodgers (Achilles) was a limited practice participant Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Rodgers was held out of Wednesday's session seemingly as part of a pre-planned maintenance program for his surgically repaired Achilles, but as expected, he was back on the field Thursday, albeit with a cap on his reps. Since having his 21-day evaluation window opened Nov. 29, Rodgers has managed three limited practices over five total sessions. Rodgers has previously stated that he's aiming to return for a Week 16 game against the Commanders on Dec. 24, but the odds of the 40-year-old quarterback playing again this season appear to be dwindling while the 4-8 Jets have started to fade from the AFC playoff picture. Another loss Sunday to the Texans or in Week 15 against the Dolphins could prompt Rodgers to close the door on a return to game action this season, though Ian Rapoport of NFL Network recently reported that Rodgers could be added to the 53-man roster when his evaluation window closes and continue to take part in practices while serving as an emergency No. 3 quarterback over the Jets' final three games.

Rodgers (Achilles) won't practice Wednesday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
His absence reportedly was planned, though prior reports had suggested that Rodgers would practice on consecutive days this week. That still might happen Thursday and Friday, though a return to game action during the 2023 season appears to be highly unlikely with the Jets sitting at 4-8 after a loss to Atlanta this past Sunday. After a two-game benching, Zach Wilson will reclaim the Jets' starting quarterback job Week 14 against Houston.
