NFL suspended free agent S James Sanders four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Sanders, 29, appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals last season, making 19 tackles mainly as a special teams player. He visited the Steelers three weeks ago, but it has been his only trip of free agency. Sanders will be eligible to return to game action in Week 5.

Free agent S James Sanders is visiting the Steelers on Thursday.

The Steelers lost backup safeties Will Allen and Ryan Mundy in free agency to the Cowboys and Giants respectively, so they're in the market for an experienced veteran. Sanders has started 56 games in his eight-year career, registering 19 tackles with the Cardinals in 2012.

Cardinals agreed to terms with S James Sanders, formerly of the Falcons.

The 28-year-old Sanders started six of his 15 appearances in Atlanta last season, recording 41 tackles without an interception. The Falcons will view him as experienced depth with the capability of chipping in on special teams.

The Cardinals hosted free agent S James Sanders on Tuesday.

Arizona is looking at Sanders as an upgrade on Rashad Johnson as a third safety candidate. He'd play behind Kerry Rhodes and Adrian Wilson with the Cards.

It's Week 14 of the 2011 season, and that means that in many leagues the regular season's a done deal and it's playoff time, with each successive week meaning that you'd better go big or go home.

As you get your playoff affairs in order here's a look at some players you should give serious consideration to getting into your lineups or who could outperform expectations (Studs) and some that, for whatever reason, you may want to consider leaving alone, or at least take into account that they may be a relative disappointment this week. (Duds)

STUDS

Da'Quan Bowers -- DE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at JAX): Bowers had a huge Week 13 with eight tackles and 1.5 sacks and gets a very favorable matchup with a Jacksonville Jaguars squad allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to opposing defensive linemen.

Chris Clemons -- DE, Seattle Seahawks (vs. STL): No team in the National Football League surrenders more sacks than the Rams, who may be forced to start their third-string quarterback against a Seattle defense that plays much better at home.

Justin Smith -- DE, San Francisco 49ers (vs. ARI): Smith has been whisper quiet of late but has an excellent shot at rebounding this week against the Arizona Cardinals, who are a top five fantasy matchup for opposing defensive linemen.

Derrick Johnson -- ILB, Kansas City Chiefs (at NYJ): The Jets give up the fourth most ponts per game to opposing fantasy linebackers, and with the Jets likely to be milking the clock late in the game Johnson should see a ton of tackle opportunities.

Rey Maualuga -- MLB, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. HOU): If there was ever a game for the third-year pro to break out in it would seem to be this week's tilt with the Texans, who allow the second most tackle opportunities in the National Football League.

Colin McCarthy -- MLB, Tennessee Titans (vs. NO): The rookie has been an absolute beast sine he entered the Titans lineup, and that should continue this week against a New Orleans Saints team that gives up the most tackle opportunities in the NFL.

Roman Harper -- SS, New Orleans Saints (at TEN): Harper has struggled through a couple of down games in a row but spending more time in the box chasing Chris Johnson should turn the sixth-year veteran back into the IDP stud we all know and love.

James Sanders -- SS, Atlanta Falcons (at CAR): Sanders has supplanted William Moore as the starter at strong safety for the Falcons and matches up with a Carolina Panthers team giving up the fourth most fantasy...

James Sanders has taken over for William Moore as the Falcons' starting strong safety.

Sanders racked up 10 tackles in last week's game at Houston, leaving him with 32 in four starts. Coach Mike Smith concedes that he will have a tough decision to make once Moore fully recovers from groin and quad injuries. It's a shame the Patriots couldn't use him in late August.

IDP Waiver Wire: Week 14 (fantasysharks.com)

Week 14 of the 2011 fantasy football season has arrived, which means the regular season has concluded in many Individual Defensive Player (IDP) leagues, and in some the waiver wires have closed for business as the playoffs begin.

However, the wire remains open in many leagues and the regular season hasn't yet ended in others, leaving fantasy owners in those leagues digging through the scraps to find upgrades or injury replacements, especially given some of the big names that were forced from the field last week.

That said, here are some players that should be available on many IDP waiver wires that are worth targeting as we head into Week 14.

PICKUP OF THE WEEK

Craig Steltz, SS, Chicago: Steltz entered last week's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and played admirably, leading the team with 10 tackles and forcing a fumble. Given Major Wright's injury history and erratic play this season, there's an excellent chance that Steltz will get another start this week against the run-heavy Denver Broncos, making him more than worth a look from defensive back-needy IDP squads.

Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Tampa Bay: The highly touted rookie didn't play much earlier in the season due to concerns about his surgically repaired knee, but the injury suffered by starter Michael Bennett has meant more playing time for Bowers, and he's certainly made the most of it, tallying eight tackles and 1.5 sacks last week, making him a viable IDP target for teams that are thin up front.

Pernell McPhee, DE, Baltimore: The former Mississippi standout has seen increased playing time as the season has progressed and has seized the opportunity, logging eight tackles and three sacks over his past three games. Defensive ends in the 3-4 defense are always going to be streaky IDP options, but with the woeful Indianapolis Colts on tap McPhee is a decent plug-and-play for fantasy owners desperate for defensive line help.

Larry Grant, ILB, San Francisco: Grant stepped in when Patrick Willis went down last week with a hamstring injury and performed fairly well, making six total tackles and recording a sack in a win over the St. Louis Rams. Willis will reportedly miss at least one more game, and IDP owners of either Willis or Pat Angerer may wish to look to the fourth-year veteran as an injury fill-in.

Paris Lenon, ILB, Arizona: Lenon hasn't come anywhere close to his Top 20 season from a year ago, but the 10th-year pro has still had a decent statistical campaign, including a five-tackle, one-sack...
