Brady (calf) said Thursday night that he'll be ready for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, CSN New England reports. "Yeah, physically I had the day off but I got a lot of extra film, mental reps walkthroughs and such," Brady said. "I'll be ready to go Sunday."

Brady did mention that "anything can happen" between now and Sunday, but it seems rather clear that he expects to play. He's been on the injury report quite a few times over the years, but the only issue that actually kept him out of a game over the last 12 seasons was his torn ACL in 2008. The Miami defense put up a good fight against Brady and Co. in both matchups last year, but the Dolphins' task will be a bit harder if Rob Gronkowski (knee) is able to play Sunday. Of the key members of Brady's supporting cast, only Gronk is in any danger for Week 1, and the star tight end said that he expects to play.

Brady is expected to play Sunday against the Dolphins despite missing Thursday's practice with a calf injury, according to the Boston Herald.

It's a notion echoed by Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, with Brady's level of practice participation Friday, and subsequent injury designation, obviously of great interest to his fantasy owners in advance of Week 1.

Brady missed Thursday's practice due to a calf issue, the Patriots' official site reports.

Brady's absence Thursday was notable, given that he practiced Wednesday and had not been previously been listed on the team's injury report. What he does -- or doesn't do -- at practice Friday will be telling, though ESPN.com suggests that Brady (who is backed up by Jimmy Garoppolo) will be ready for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. An official probable designation come Friday would of course go a long way in supporting that notion.

Brady (unspecified reason) was not present for practice Thursday, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.

As Reiss notes, Brady was not listed on Wednesday's practice participation/injury report, so we'll have to see how the quarterback is listed once Thursday's update is posted by the team. In any case, Reiss suggests that Brady is expected to play Sunday, though Thursday's initial report will of course require some follow-up as the day progresses.

Brady is among the Patriots' key players not expected to participate in Thursday's preseason finale against he Giants, the Boston Globe reports.

With the team planning to keep Brady out of harm's way Thursday, Jimmy Garoppolo is in line to start the contest, and thus continue to make his case to potentially overtake Ryan Mallett for the team's top backup QB job.

While on the field for 42-of-72 of the Patriots' snaps on offense in Friday's preseason win over the Panthers, Brady completed 17-of-21 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns.

We'd be surprised to see Brady suit up for the Patriots' preseason finale, but Friday's sharp effort in the team's 30-7 win Friday is an encouraging one and the eventual return of Aaron Dobson (foot) and star tight end Rob Gronkowski (knee) will further bolster the team's offense and, in turn, Brady's fantasy prospects.

Brady indicated that he and the Patriots' other key healthy players could see extended action in Friday's preseason game against the Panthers, ESPN.com reports. "Coach told us we're going to get a lot of work," Brady said Wednesday after practice. "What that means, I don't know. I don't think anyone ever knows with him. But we'll be prepared and ready to go for 60 minutes and hopefully it's a good 60 minutes."

While Brady's reps Friday, however many he sees, will be of the tune-up variety, there will be some intrigue with regard to the team's backup QB pecking order, with Ryan Mallett and Jimmy Garoppolo still jostling for the No. 2 slot on the team's depth chart.

Brady completed 8-of-10 passes for 81 yards with a touchdown and a pick in Friday's preseason win over the Eagles.

While the interception was returned for a TD, the play can at least be partly attributed to a miscommunication on a route between Brady and recently-signed reserve tight end Steve Maneri. Brady, who sat out the team's preseason opener last week, otherwise looked sharp in the contest. As he approaches the coming season, Brady is healthy, as are key passing targets Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola. Once wideout Aaron Dobson and star TE Rob Gronkowski return to the mix, Brady will benefit from working with a solid and deep pass-catching corps that also includes the likes of Kenbrell Thompkins and Brandon LaFell, though at this stage it's unclear what can be expected from Gronkowski out of the gate.

Brady's teammate, Ryan Mallett, is in line to start Thursday's preseason opener against the Redskins, the Boston Herald reports.

Brady has looked sharp in team drills against the Redskins (during the two squad's joint practices) this week, with the report noting that the veteran QB completed 60-of-80 passes in the process. Meanwhile, Mallett is having a strong training camp, which solidifies his standing as Brady's top backup, assuming the Patriots elect to hold on to him, rather than entertain the notion of dealing him, with second-rounder Jimmy Garoppolo now also in the team's QB mix.

Brady looked sharp during Monday's joint practice with the Redskins, the Boston Herald reports.

The report notes that the 37-year-old signal-caller completed 27-of-33 passes during team drills Monday and while practice numbers don't carry a lot of weight, it's nonetheless encouraging that at this stage of training camp, Brady is healthy and getting in productive reps. With a wideout corps that includes Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Kenbrell Thompkins, Brandon LaFell and Aaron Dobson (once he returns from a foot injury), Brady heads into the season with a solid set of pass-catchers, in particular if star tight end Rob Gronkowski is available (as hoped) to start the season.
