Lions released CB Ron Bartell.
Bartell, 31, hasn't been the same player since suffering a significant neck injury in Week 1 of the 2011 season with the Rams. He saw some action with the Lions' first-team defense this summer, but Detroit is moving forward with second-rounder Darius Slay opposite Chris Houston. Bill Bentley will man the slot. Bartell lost out to Rashean Mathis for the veteran reserve role.

The Oakland Press doesn't expect CB Ronald Bartell to make the 53-man roster.
Bartell opened training camp with the first-team defense, but missed significant time due to a shoulder injury and is now behind second-round rookie Darius Slay. He has a base salary of $1 million this season and is the Lions' fourth cornerback. Bartell, 30, could draw some interest on waivers if released.

Ronald Bartell and Chris Houston have worked as the Lions' first-team corners throughout OTAs.
Jonte Green and Chris Greenwood are working with the twos. Bill Bentley has been the all-time slot corner. Second-round pick Darius Slay is recovering from knee surgery and won't make his move until August. The position opposite Houston is still up in the air. Bartell struggled mightily in Oakland last year.

Lions signed CB Ron Bartell, formerly of the Raiders.
Bartell was released last week after starting all six of his games with Oakland this season. Although he was a liability in coverage, the 30-year-old is worthy of a flier in Detroit. The Lions need the depth with Jacob Lacey (knee) headed to injured reserve.

Raiders released CB Ronald Bartell.
Heads continue to roll in Oakland, though Bartell was actually brought in by the new regime. Signed to be a starter, Bartell ended up missing Weeks 2-9 with a neck injury, and wasn't effective when on the field. Injuries have now limited the former Ram to just seven of a possible 29 games the past two seasons. He'll turn 31 in February. Oakland will go forward with Michael Huff and either Joselio Hanson or Phillip Adams at cornerback.

Raiders CB Ronald Bartell (shoulder) is expected to return this week against the Ravens.
Bartell was placed on injured reserve designated for return after Week 1 and has been practicing for the past week or so. Week 10 is the first game that he's eligible to return. Oakland currently ranks No. 21 against the pass and has some serious depth issues, so Bartell's return is definitely welcome. Bartell opened the season as the starting left corner. Pat Lee has been thrust into that spot over the past two months.

Coach Dennis Allen stated Friday that CB Ronald Bartell "seems to be on track" to rejoin the lineup when eligible in November.
Bartell, Oakland's top corner, was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list and is eligible to resume playing in games on November 11 -- Week 10. He can resume practicing on October 27. The Raiders need their front four to keep playing like they did against Matt Ryan to mask the secondary deficiencies.
