Antoine Winfield accepted $2 million less in guaranteed money to sign with the Seahawks.

The Vikings reportedly offered Winfield a fully guaranteed one-year, $3 million contract to return. He turned them down and accepted a $2 million deal from the Seahawks that contains just $1 million guaranteed. "They have an opportunity to do something that I dream about every night and that's win a championship," Winfield said. "...I don't have too much time left. This is Year 15 for me so I'm trying to get it this year."

The Seahawks plan to use Antoine Winfield as strictly a nickel back, giving him around 600 defensive snaps.

He played 1,100 in Minnesota last season. Winfield is plenty capable of starting games at left cornerback, but the Seahawks want him in the slot, wreaking havoc on inside receivers and ball carriers closer to the line of scrimmage. He's also a quality insurance policy should LCB Richard Sherman suffer injury.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Broncos and Patriots dabbled in the Winfield bidding, in addition to Seattle, Washington, and Minnesota.

Rapoport expects Winfield to decide "soon." ESPN's Ed Werder reported earlier Wednesday that the Seahawks were "closing in" on Winfield, so they should be considered the favorite. The "very fluid" designation may just be an attempt on Winfield's part to wring a few extra dimes out of Seattle.

The Washington Examiner reports the Redskins "remain a strong option" for free agent Antoine Winfield.

Winfield visited the Seahawks on Monday. Minnesota "remains interested," and a fourth unnamed team is trying to get Winfield to visit. The Examiner's John Keim speculates the Broncos could be the mystery team. A source with knowledge of the situation tells Keim that Winfield wants to make a decision "soon."

Coach Leslie Frazier has "remained in contact" with free agent CB Antoine Winfield, and is "hoping" he re-signs with the Vikings.

"We all like to know we're wanted," Frazier said Sunday. "I've tried to make that clear to him. I'll let him know, 'If you've got any questions, you know how to reach me.'" The Vikings now have to beat out the Seahawks in addition to the Redskins for Winfield's services. With the best roster and most cap space, Seattle is probably the favorite to land the 35-year-old corner.

At roughly $9 million, the Seahawks have more salary cap space than fellow Antoine Winfield bidders Minnesota and Washington.

In other words, Seattle could easily win any potential bidding war. The Seahawks also boast the most talented roster in football and could give Winfield his best shot at a Super Bowl ring. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier has remained in touch with Winfield throughout his free-agency process and remains optimistic about a reunion. "I don't know what direction he's leaning, but I'm hoping he'll come back and be a Viking," Frazier said.
