Longtime Redskins TE Chris Cooley is retiring from football. Cooley will join the Redskins' radio booth after spending his entire nine-year career with the team. A two-time Pro Bowler, Cooley retires with 429 catches for 4,711 yards and 33 touchdowns across 116 career games. His best season was 2008, where he turned in an 83/849/1 line. Cooley is only 31, but caught just nine passes across 13 games the past two seasons. He goes down as one of the better pass-catchers in Redskins history.

The Washington Post says it appears the Redskins have moved on from free agent TE Chris Cooley.

Free agent Chris Cooley has yet to hear from the Redskins, but isn't interested in playing for other teams. "I have no clue (if I'll be back), but you can ask (GM) Bruce Allen or (coach) Mike Shanahan," Cooley said Tuesday. Allen said in March that Cooley was drawing interest from other teams, but it's apparently not reciprocal. The most likely scenario could be a repat of 2012, where Cooley remained on the street until a need arose for the Redskins.

Redskins GM Bruce Allen says free agent Chris Cooley is drawing interest from other teams. "He might decide to play for another team," Allen said. Cooley could "eventually" re-sign with the Redskins, but Allen is unsure of when. Just about out of gas, Cooley's primary selling point on the open market could be veteran leadership in training camp.

Free agent TE Chris Cooley does not have plans to retire. Cooley latched on with the Redskins for the final eight games of last season, but caught just one pass in a bit role. His gas tank is just about on empty at age 30, but he doesn't want to hang it up. "We'll see what happens in the spring," Cooley said. "There's always that situation of staying in good shape and being a guy that's around sometime halfway through the year. I've known a lot of guys that have done it."

According to the Washington Examiner, it's "hard to imagine" the Redskins re-signing free agent Chris Cooley. Cooley played just 93 snaps after re-signing in Week 8, and appeared to be on his last legs. It wouldn't be surprising if Cooley opts to retire as opposed to peddling his wares on the open market.

Chris Cooley has not caught a pass since the Redskins re-signed him prior to Week 8. Logan Paulsen is Washington's every-down tight end, and Cooley is the third-stringer behind Paulsen and Niles Paul. "I'm excited to be here," Cooley insisted. "I'm excited to have a chance to play if that chance comes." The 30-year-old tight end played only three snaps of offense on Thanksgiving Day.

Chris Cooley had no catches on one target while making his 2012 debut in Sunday's Week 8 loss to the Steelers. Cooley was on the field in two-tight end sets, but Logan Paulsen was the man when the Redskins went with one tight end. Cooley spent most of his time blocking and is far off the fantasy radar.

Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan indicated Chris Cooley will not replace Fred Davis in the starting lineup. The plan is to use a combination of Cooley, Logan Paulsen, and Niles Paul, depending on personnel packages. According to the Washington Examiner, Cooley "clearly had lost a step" before the Redskins cut him in September. He's not a recommended waiver pickup this week and will likely be outproduced by Paulsen, whom Shanahan says is a "legit tight end now."
