Longtime Redskins TE Chris Cooley is retiring from football. Cooley will join the Redskins' radio booth after spending his entire nine-year career with the team. A two-time Pro Bowler, Cooley retires with 429 catches for 4,711 yards and 33 touchdowns across 116 career games. His best season was 2008, where he turned in an 83/849/1 line. Cooley is only 31, but caught just nine passes across 13 games the past two seasons. He goes down as one of the better pass-catchers in Redskins history.

The Washington Post says it appears the Redskins have moved on from free agent TE Chris Cooley.

The most likely scenario could be a repat of 2012, where Cooley remained on the street until a need arose for the Redskins.

Cooley played just 93 snaps after re-signing in Week 8, and appeared to be on his last legs. It wouldn't be surprising if Cooley opts to retire as opposed to peddling his wares on the open market.

Cooley was on the field in two-tight end sets, but Logan Paulsen was the man when the Redskins went with one tight end. Cooley spent most of his time blocking and is far off the fantasy radar.

Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan indicated Chris Cooley will not replace Fred Davis in the starting lineup. The plan is to use a combination of Cooley, Logan Paulsen, and Niles Paul, depending on personnel packages. According to the Washington Examiner, Cooley "clearly had lost a step" before the Redskins cut him in September. He's not a recommended waiver pickup this week and will likely be outproduced by Paulsen, whom Shanahan says is a "legit tight end now."
