Peyton Manning is pushing for the Broncos to re-sign free agent Brandon Stokley.

37-year-old Stokley visited the Titans in late March, but has otherwise generated little free-agent interest. "Hope it's not necessarily a close-door discussion," Manning said of Stokley's status with Denver. "In a perfect world I'd like both (Stokley and Wes Welker) to be on the team this year." Stokley could return to compete with Andre Caldwell for No. 4 receiver duties.

Free agent Brandon Stokley, 37 in June, hopes to continue his playing career.

The Wes Welker signing has rendered Stokley irrelevant in Denver. "We play pretty much the same position, so it doesn't look good for me," acknowledged Stokley. "But you never know in this league what can happen. ... My plan right now, is just to stay in shape and see if anything pops open and comes available."

Impending free agent Brandon Stokley is "not sure" what his NFL future holds, but hopes to be back in Denver for another season.

"I definitely would still love to play," said Stokley. "I still love to compete and I feel this is the only thing that I do halfway good, so why stop now?" Although Stokley turns 37 in June, another one-year contract makes plenty of sense. He had a fine comeback season as Peyton Manning's reliable slot receiver and a key red-zone weapon.

Brandon Stokley caught three passes for 27 yards and a touchdown in Denver's Divisional Round loss to the Ravens.

Stokley's first-quarter touchdown was a thing of beauty, as he walled off Ravens CB Corey Graham in the corner of the end-zone for a 15-yard score. He made just two catches for 27 yards thereafter, however, and was invisible even as the Broncos adopted a dump-off approach in the passing game. Each of Stokley's 45 catches and 544 yards this season were his most since 2008, but 37 in June, it's quite possible he won't be re-signed.

Brandon Stokley caught three passes for 49 yards in Denver's Week 17 win over the Chiefs.

Peyton Manning's ageless safety valve finishes the year with a 45/544/5 line. Although they're remarkable numbers for a 36-year-old wideout who had been left for dead, Stokley wore down as the season progressed, and found himself a smaller part of the Broncos offense as Eric Decker came on. Stokley will get a much-deserved run at the Super Bowl this postseason, but it's possible he's played his final regular-season game.
