Jaguars assigned the franchise tag to K Josh Scobee.

Scobee is the fourth kicker to be franchised this offseason. The Jaguars' kicker since being a fifth-round pick in 2004, Scobee's 92 percent field-goal percentage was third in the NFL last season. He is 15-of-22 on kicks of 50 yards or longer since 2008.

The Florida Times Union reports that there is a "significant gap" in contract aspirations between the Jaguars and free agent Josh Scobee.

The Jags can franchise tag Scobee if talks fall through, so they have the most leverage. Though both sides agree that staying in Jacksonville is Scobee's best option, he may be angling to become the NFL's highest paid kicker.

The Jaguars have begun "very preliminary discussions" with free agent K Josh Scobee about a long-term contract.

Both sides want to compete a deal, according to the Florida Times Union, and Scobee is "absolutely one of the team's priorities." Scobee is reportedly also the only player to whom the Jaguars would consider applying the franchise tag.

Josh Scobee (groin) is expected to kick for the Jaguars at Atlanta Thursday night.

The Jags have Brandon Coutu on the practice squad, but they hadn't promoted him to the active roster by late Thursday afternoon. Scobee isn't worth the risk in Jacksonville's low-scoring offense.

Josh Scobee (groin) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Falcons.

Scobee was limited in Wednesday's practice. If he can't go, Brandon Coutu will get the nod.

Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee did not kick in practice Tuesday, leaving his status in question for Thursday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
