Eli Manning had the highest average pass distance among NFL quarterbacks in 2013, at 9.49 yards from the line of scrimmage.

Combine ex-OC Kevin Gilbride's vertical scheme with the Giants' injury-ravaged, swinging-gate offensive line, and the result was Eli's career-worst season, with career highs in picks (27) and sacks taken (39). New OC Ben McAdoo is installing a shortened, quicker-hitting attack in an effort to rejuvenate Eli. The Giants likely hope Manning can have a Riversian bounce-back year.

Co-owner John Mara told the New York Post the Giants have had no contract extension talks with Eli Manning.

Manning, 33, is currently signed through 2015 at base salaries of $15.15 million this year, and $17 million next year. ESPN's Dan Graziano reported in April that the Giants are concerned Eli has entered his decline phase after leading the NFL in interceptions (27) last season. "We haven't even really discussed that yet," Mara said of a new deal. "We'll discuss that at the appropriate time. Obviously it's our hope that he finish his career as a Giant."

Eli Manning said he's "reenergized" in new OC Ben McAdoo's offense.

Manning regressed in ex-Giants OC Kevin Gilbride's offense last year, leaving members of the front office concerned over whether he's in his decline stage. The Giants will be more of a quick-hitting passing attack under McAdoo, which should play to his strengths. An improved offensive line and the presence of rookie Odell Beckham also give Manning a better supporting cast. Manning is signed through 2015, but will be in line for an extension next offseason if he bounces back.

The Giants are installing a "quick-hitting passing attack that is predicated on timing" under new OC Ben McAdoo.

Per beat writer Jordan Raanan, the biggest benefit may be simplification of route concepts for players like Rueben Randle, while the offensive line isn't asked to hold blocks as long. The Chargers took a similar approach with Philip Rivers last year, and it paid off handsomely en route to NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors. It remains to be seen whether Eli Manning possesses the short to intermediate accuracy to make a Rivers-like late-career leap.
