The extent of Burfict's injury isn't clear. Nick Vigil will step in at weakside linebacker in the interim.

Burfict (ankle) was unlisted on the Bengals' final injury report released Friday.
Burfict injured his ankle in Wednesday's practice, and was subsequently carted off of the field. It appears the Bengals may be been exercising caution with the line backer, as he was a full participant in Thursday and Friday's practice. He appears to be set for Sunday's matchup with the Chargers.

Burfict (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday.
Burfict injured his ankle in Wednesday's practice, leading to him being carted off of the field. However, the injury turned out to be minor and the linebacker was back on the field Thursday in full. The Bengals still may monitored his reps more closely this week against the Browns, if that is case, look for Nick Vigil to see increased action.

Burfict injured his ankle during Wednesday's practice and was unable to return, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports.
Despite being carted off during practice Wednesday, coach Marvin Lewis believes Burfict avoided any kind of serious injury and he should be ready to play Sunday against the Browns, given he avoids a setback. Burfict may start to believe in karma after this occurrence, having been fined earlier Wednesday for stomping on Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount during the Bengals' Week 6 loss. The team may elect to proceed cautiously with Burfict's minor injury and limit his practice participation throughout the week.

Burfict was fined for stomping on the Pats LeGarrette Blount late in the loss in Week 6, but was not suspended.
It's interesting to note that was the transgression, and not his hit on Martellus Bennett, that drew the punishment from the NFL. He'll be back in uniform this week against the Browns.

Burfict's hit on Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett during the fourth quarter of Sunday's game is being reviewed by the league, NFL.com reports.
Burfict, who was suspended for the first three games of this season for repeated violations of safety-related playing rules, was seen making an unnecessary, low hit to Bennett away from a fourth-quarter play Sunday. That incident has sparked another review of Burfict by the league, which could result in some form of punishment for the much-scrutinized linebacker. In three games played, Burfict has totaled 21 tackles thus far, but he also might've earned his first fine of the season already as well.

Burfict had 10 tackles in Sunday's Week 5 loss to the Cowboys, though he still graded out poorly by Pro Football Focus, Bengals.com reports.
Burfict and Rey Maualuga were blocked out easily on Ezekiel Elliott's big 60-yard touchdown, and many of his tackles came well after Elliott had already gashed the Bengals' run defense. He increased his snap count from 34 to 44 in his second game back and appears ready for a full workload this week against New England.

Burfict is expected to play 25-35 snaps in his season debut Thursday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
It's always possible Burfict could play more than expected, but he just rejoined the Bengals earlier this week after serving a three-game suspension, and it appears he will be eased back into action with the team on a short week. If Burfict is indeed placed on a snap count Thursday, it seems likely he will be able to handle a full workload in Week 5 and beyond.

Burfict returned from his three-game suspension Monday and should play in Thursday night's game against the Dolphins, Bengals writer Geoff Hobson reports.
Burfict was forced to miss Cincinnati's first three games after being suspended for repeated violations of safety-related playing rules. Although he was eligible to play during the preseason, coach Marvin Lewis decided to keep Burfict out of the action, but he's expected to return Thursday to face the Dolphins. Having been out, it's unclear how many snaps Burfict will be able to handle right away, but the extended layoff before the Bengals' Week 5 game against the Cowboys could allow him to reclaim his starting linebacker position before long.

In a media luncheon on Tuesday, head coach Marvin Lewis confirmed, "I am not going to play Vontaze Burfict in the preseason," Paul Dehner Jr. of Cincinnati.com reports.
Burfict is suspended for the first three games of the regular season but is still eligible to play in the preseason by league rules. However, Lewis would rather play it safe and keep his star linebacker on the sidelines, keeping him safe from injuries and any on-the-field issue that could extend his suspension. Lewis said, "There's no reason for us to risk him getting hurt. It's hard because he's so competitive we have to continue to hold him back. One day he gets it the next day he wants to fight me on it. That's it. There's no reason to expose him to injury because he's too valuable." With Burfict out of the rotation, more reps will be allocated to young Bengals' linebackers.
