Fitzpatrick completed 9-of-16 passes for 76 yards and one touchdown, and lost a fumble in Saturday's preseason game against the Giants.
Fitzpatrick's touchdown pass was a 22-yard connection with Eric Decker, which marked his final involvement in Saturday's contest. Besides that play, Fitzpatrick was rather underwhelming, as his 4.8 yards per attempt might suggest. Nonetheless, Fitzpatrick was without top wideout Brandon Marshall (hip) and played less than two quarters, so he probably won't be too worried by Saturday's lackluster preseason showing.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Thursday that Fitzpatrick will be the starter this season, according to Kimberley Martin of Newsday.
The announcement came as no surprise after Fitzpatrick signed a one-year, $12 million contract Wednesday to return to the Jets. He is coming off the best season of his career and will have even more weapons this year with the hope of making the playoffs for the first time.

Fitzpatrick has signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Fitzpatrick and the Jets have been in talks over a contract for months, with Fitzpatrick willing to retire before he accepted an offer below his market value. Now that the deal is done, Fitzpatrick will surely be the starting quarterback for New York, though the team may take him slowly after he wasn't with the team throughout the offseason. In his lone season with the Jets last year, Fitzpatrick threw for 3,905 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions while completing 59.6 percent of his passes in what was arguably the best season of his career.

Fitzpatrick has multiple contract offers from the Jets, the New York Daily News reports.
Fitzpatrick's contract standoff has now carried out over the entire offseason, as he's yet to receive an agreeable proposal from the Jets. According to reports, New York has offered Fitzpatrick a three-year, $24 million deal with $15 million in guarantees, and has also put another offer on the table. In the end, though, and despite the team freeing cap room with Muhammad Wilkerson's recent extension, Fitzpatrick has only received offers below his market value, thus the extended impasse. Fresh off a franchise-record 31 touchdowns, Fitzpatrick's situation will become more urgent once the Jets open training camp Saturday, but at the moment, no progress has been made in contract talks.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports that the Jets have an offer that has been on the table for at least two months, which would include $12 million in the first year of the deal.
Previous reports had suggested that the first year of the offer was in the $8 million range, but what actually seems to be the sticking point in negotiations is what the deal would be worth after 2016. While no deal is imminent, the Jets continue to maintain that they'd like Fitzpatrick to return as their starter, while the QB has said he'd like to re-sign with the team. Until that happens though, Geno Smith slots in as the team's No. 1 QB, with Bryce Petty and rookie Christian Hackenberg as his backups.

Fitzpatrick and his representatives have not held discussions with the Jets over re-signing with the team in several weeks, the New York Post reports.
Fitzpatrick and the Jets remain at an impasse over his requested contract terms, and despite OTAs kicking off this week, the two parties apparently still haven't talked recently. While Fitzpatrick's top two targets, Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall, were conspicuously absent from practice this week, possibly to show their solidarity for Fitzpatrick, it's still unclear whether to expect any developments in the quarterback's free agency anytime soon.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets are unlikely to reach agreement on a new contract before next week's NFL Draft, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Fitzpatrick and the Jets remain far apart on terms to a new contract, which could lead them to address the quarterback position through the draft. That being said, Fitzpatrick is fresh off a career-best 3,905 passing yards and 31 touchdowns last season, and his long-standing relationship with offensive coordinator Chan Gailey could prove invaluable to the Jets' hopes of making the playoffs this season. As a result, Fitzpatrick and New York could still reach a contract agreement, but it appears he'll have to wait a bit longer if that indeed comes to fruition.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets are not close on a new contract, Newsday reports.
Fitzpatrick is reportedly looking for a deal north of $16 million per season, while the Jets are potentially offering half that amount, which is why the stalemate continues. The Jets brought in Robert Griffin this past week, though he left without a contract offer. The Broncos were also potentially interested in Fitzpatrick, though the addition of Mark Sanchez may have killed that possibility. Fitzpatrick's fantasy potential for 2016 obviously hinges greatly on where he ends up, and he'll find it tough to end up on a team with better wideouts than what the Jets offer in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, or the Broncos with Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.

Fitzpatrick is expected to hit the open market since he and the Jets remain far apart on a potential new contract, NFL.com reports.
Fitzpatrick has long been expected to remain with the Jets, but negotiations reportedly haven't gone as smooth as anticipated. After Sam Bradford inked a generous two-year, $36 million deal with the Eagles, questions of Fitzpatrick's market value seemingly clouded talks with the Jets, who are still thought to want to retain Fitzpatrick. However, with no new deal at the moment, the veteran is now slated to hit free agency coming off an impressive 2015 campaign.

Fitzpatrick is expected to re-sign with the Jets, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Fitzpatrick is coming off the best season of his career, throwing for 3,905 yards and 31 touchdowns, though the Jets failed to make the playoffs despite finishing 10-6. Fitzpatrick and the Jets are just working on what the final contract value will be, but at this point it's all but certain he'll get another season to throw to Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.
