Griffin (shoulder) has officially been activated by the Browns.

EDGE Analysis

The move to activate Griffin from IR/designated for return was a formality considering that the QB has already been named the team's starting QB for Sunday's game against the Bengals. Griffin is thus slated to return to the field in Week 14 after having suffered a fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder in Cleveland's season opener and being placed on IR back on Sept. 12. From the perspective of the 0-12 Browns, getting a closer look at the oft-injured QB down the stretch should help the team's brass make a more informed decision regarding whether or not they feel Griffin merits a longer look next season.

The Browns announced Thursday that Griffin (shoulder) will start Sunday's game against the Bengals, Michael Silver of the NFL Network reports.

EDGE Analysis

There had been speculation since Griffin was cleared for contact last week that he would be under center in Week 14, and the team confirmed Thursday that he will do just that. Sunday's game will be Griffin's first action since Week 1, so he may have a little rust to shake off. However, the Browns want to give him another shot to show what he can do so they can try to finally get in the win column, and also evaluate his prospects for 2017. Griffin will be challenged in his first game back, as he will take on a Bengals squad that allowed just three total passing touchdowns over its last three games.

ESPN's Dan Graziano relayed Wednesday that "barring an unforeseen health setback," the Browns plan to start Griffin (shoulder) at QB on Sunday against the Bengals.

EDGE Analysis

The 0-12 Browns have yet to confirm the assignment, and Griffin -- who last played in Week 1 -- must first be activated from IR/Designated to Return for it to transpire. Of course, getting a closer look at Griffin down the stretch would help allow the Browns to make a more informed decision regarding whether they feel the QB merits a longer look next season.

Griffin (shoulder) is a candidate to start Sunday's game against the Bengals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Browns will not make a final call on their starting quarterback for Week 14 for a few more days, but if Griffin -- the team's Week 1 starter who was cleared for contact during last week's bye -- is able to make it through practice this week without a setback, it seems there is a good chance he gets the nod over Josh McCown and Cody Kessler as the Browns look to pick up their first win of the season.

Griffin (shoulder) has been cleared for contact, ESPN's Ed Werder reports.

EDGE Analysis

Griffin was cleared for non-contact work a couple weeks ago, but he has now been cleared to participate in all football activates again, setting the stage for him to resume playing if head coach Hue Jackson sees fit. The Browns are on bye in Week 13, which will give both coach and team extra time to evaluate Griffin, Cody Kessler, and Josh McCown and determine who will be under center when the team returns to action in Week 14 against the Bengals.

Griffin is scheduled for an examination of his left shoulder this week to determine if he can take contact, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Browns' long-awaited bye week has arrived, but a quarterback quandary could be in the offing. Josh McCown has fared OK in back-to-back starts for rookie Cody Kessler, who was cleared from the concussion protocol Monday. If Griffin also throws his hat into the ring in the near future, head coach Hue Jackson will have a difficult decision to make for Cleveland's next game on Dec. 11 against the Bengals. Hence the reason Jackson told Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal that "it's too early to name a starting quarterback" for Week 14. Griffin has been sidelined since breaking the coracoid bone in his left shoulder during the regular season opener.

As expected, Griffin (shoulder) returned to practice Wednesday, Ohio.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Though the Browns have yet to add him to their active roster, it seems that it's only a matter of time, as Griffin returned to practice for the first time since Week 1. Per the report, Griffin hasn't been cleared for contact yet, but coach Hue Jackson said that could happen as soon as this week. He won't play against the Giants, but the report speculates a return for the quarterback after Cleveland's Dec. 4 bye.

Griffin (shoulder) will practice Wednesday, NFL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Browns have designated Griffin as their player to return from injured reserve, and he will return to practice for the first time since Week 1. Griffin will not immediately be added to the Browns' roster, but the team will either have to do so or place him on injured reserve at some point in the next three weeks.

Griffin (shoulder) is slated to practice next week, ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Though the QB, who is still listed on IR, is in line to practice, he still needs to clear one more medical hurdle before being cleared to play in a game. With that in mind, Griffin could undergo an exam on that front some time next week. In the event that Griffin is cleared, however, it's unclear whether the Browns would consider activating and/or starting him before the end of the season. The 0-10 team is currently being helmed by Cody Kessler, backed up by veteran Josh McCown.

Griffin (shoulder) has been cleared for non-contact activities but is not expected to practice this week, Cleveland.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Griffin is close to being ready to resume playing, but the Browns have to designate him as their player to return from injured reserve before he is allowed to take the practice field, and since the rules allow only one such player to come off IR in a season, the team wants to be certain he will be able to play again this year before making that call. The Browns will wait at least a week to make the decision, but if they do decide to bring Griffin back from IR, that would put him on track to play again at some point before 2016 comes to a close.
