Griffin has consistently been taking first-team snaps at OTAs, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

EDGE Analysis

Although Griffin is the clear favorite to win a competition against Josh McCown and third-round rookie Cody Kessler, the battle will likely continue throughout training camp and the preseason. Griffin is the only one of the trio possessing long-term upside, but McCown was actually decent when healthy last season, completing 63.7 percent of his passes for 7.2 yards per attempt, with 12 touchdowns and just four interceptions in eight games (all starts). Granted, Cleveland won just one of those eight games, needing overtime to do so.

Griffin is a candidate to win the Browns' starting quarterback position, but coach Hue Jackson says "it's too soon" to name the team's starter at this point, Cleveland.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Griffin was signed to a two-year deal this offseason after being demoted to the Redskins' third-string option last year, when he took zero snaps during the regular season. Despite such recent inactivity, Griffin is expected to compete primarily with the likes of rookie third-rounder Cody Kessler and veteran Josh McCown for Cleveland's starting job. Although coach Jackson says he doesn't have a timeline to name a starter, the Browns' OTAs and training camp are expected to help sort out the position.

Griffin's new team waited until late in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft to select a quarterback, going with USC product Cody Kessler at No. 93 overall, ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

After Griffin signed a two-year, $15 million contract in late March, it was widely reported that his addition wouldn't necessarily preclude the Browns from taking a quarterback early in the draft. Instead, the team traded down in the first round multiple times, eventually selecting Baylor WR Corey Coleman at No. 15 overall. A Baylor product himself, Griffin is likely thrilled about how the draft turned out, with Cleveland further bolstering its receiving corps by selecting WR Ricardo Louis (4th round), TE Seth Devalve (4th), WR Jordan Payton (5th) and WR Rashard Higgins (5th) in the middle rounds. Though he'll presumably have to compete for the job, Griffin is the favorite to start in Week 1 for a rebuilding Browns team, as he offers greater long-term potential than either Kessler or 36-year-old Josh McCown.

Griffin split first-team QB reps with Josh McCown at the Browns' voluntary minicamp Tuesday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

EDGE Analysis

At this stage, the Browns' quarterback situation remains fluid, though some added clarity on that front should arrive no later than the NFL Draft later this month. For now, the Browns hold the No. 2 pick overall and it's assumed that drafting a QB in that slot is an option, as is trading the pick. Moreover, while McCown actually worked ahead of Griffin on Tuesday, the report suggests that he's a candidate to be traded or released down the road, now that Griffin is on hand. With regard to Griffin, coach Hue Jackson noted Tuesday that the team's new QB is "very talented...obviously (Griffin) did some good things, but he has a lot of things just like a lot of our players do to clean up. It was one practice, but it was a good start."

Griffin agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract with the Browns on Thursday, Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

$6.75 million of the contract is guaranteed and another $7 million is available through incentives. The significant commitment should ensure that Griffin gets to compete for the starting job, even if his new team ends up selecting a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft. Although the Browns now seem far less likely to do so, various reports have suggested that it's still on the table. The 26-year-old Griffin still has first-rate physical tools, but he hasn't played well since his rookie season and didn't take a single snap in 2015.

Griffin is expected to reach an agreement with the Browns on Thursday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

EDGE Analysis

Griffin visited the Jets and Browns last week, with rumors suggesting that he was far more likely to join the latter team. Assuming a deal is worked out, Griffin will join Josh McCown and Austin Davis on the Cleveland depth chart, though it's possible the team could still add a rookie. This will take Cleveland out of the mix for Colin Kaepernick, and it doesn't bode well for Jared Goff or Carson Wentz's chances of coming off the board within the first three picks of the NFL Draft. Griffin, meanwhile, should have the opportunity to compete for the starting job on a talent-deficient Cleveland squad.

Griffin visited the Browns on Saturday, FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports.

EDGE Analysis

Garafolo called the visit "good," but there's no indication to this point that any deal was near materializing. Griffin visited the Jets on Friday and might spend a bit more time on the market before his situation settles.

Griffin is scheduled to visit the Jets on Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

EDGE Analysis

Griffin's visit comes while the Jets remain in a standoff with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick about potentially re-signing with the team. Given that increasingly uncertain situation, the Jets are rightfully exploring alternatives, such as Griffin. Whether Griffin's visit results in anything more concrete with the Jets remains to be seen, but it's worth noting there's some mutual interest from both parties at this point.

Griffin has been released by the Redskins, The Washington Post reports.

EDGE Analysis

Griffin's release comes as no surprise, as the Redskins understandably wanted nothing to do with paying a player that took zero snaps last season the $16.1 million Griffin was owed this coming campaign. That being said, after a wildly successful start to his career, Griffin is expected to garner significant interest as a free agent. Whether he's ultimately inked to start elsewhere or serve as a high-profile backup, it'll be interesting to monitor how Griffin responds to a fresh start with another team going forward.

Redskins president Bruce Allen said that Griffin won't be re-signed, ESPN.com reports. "I see Robert getting an opportunity with another team," Allen said. "We've heard from some teams that are interested. I think he's going to have a choice of a couple teams that will let him excel in the future."

EDGE Analysis

Even if Washington had some interest, Griffin would presumably prefer to find a new home. The team has held out some hope of finding a trade partner, but with such an outcome seeming rather unlikely, the former Heisman winner will inevitably be released before March 9 when his $16.55 million option for 2016 would kick in. Griffin will presumably have to settle for a backup job, though he might find a team that's at least willing to give him an outside shot at earning the starting role.
