McDonald has reached an agreement with the Bears, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.

McDonald was released by the 49ers in November, a few months after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. He ultimately wasn't charged with anything, but the 49ers released a statement making it quite clear that off-field issues were to blame for his release. McDonald started 14 or more games in each of the past four seasons, averaging 28 tackles and 3.6 sacks. He probably won't be an IDP option, but based on talent alone, he should be able to earn a starting job in Chicago.

The 49ers have released McDonald, the team's official site reports.

"We as an organization have notified (McDonald) and his agent that we have terminated his contract," GM Trent Baalke indicated Wednesday in a statement relayed by the 49ers' official site, following the team's release of the defensive tackle. "Ray has demonstrated a pattern of poor decision-making that is no longer going to be tolerated."

McDonald recorded a season-high seven tackles (five tackles) and his first sack of the season in Sunday's win over the Giants.

Now that McDonald's off-the-field issues have been cleared, he can focus primarily on his on-the-field play. While Sunday's performance was stellar, it is hard to recommend McDonald in standard IDP leagues due to his lack of tackles and sacks from the defensive end position.

McDonald will not face charges as a result of his Aug. 31 arrest on suspicion of domestic violence, NFL.com reports.

In a statement released by the 49ers, "based on the information available to us and the District Attorney's decision not to file charges, there will be no change in Ray's status with the team." McDonald has started at defensive end in all nine of the 49ers' games this season, while recording 24 tackles.

McDonald left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with a dislocated finger, CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports.

For those using the 49ers' defensive end in IDP leagues, it will be important to monitor his practice availability throughout the week. Through three games he has seven tackles and no sacks.

McDonald recorded two tackles in Sunday's loss to the Bears.

McDonald continues to play despite being under investigation for a domestic dispute. The team is opting to let the legal process play out before issuing any sort of punishment. McDonald led all defensive players with 49 snaps Sunday. He is a far better real football player than an IDP asset, as a non-pass-rushing 3-4 defensive end doesn't produce a lot of tackles or sacks.

The 49ers will allow McDonald to play against Dallas on Sunday despite his Sunday arrest on a felony domestic violence charge, CSN Bay Area reports.

The 49ers are standing behind the unresolved nature of McDonald's legal situation as a sufficient reason to let him keep playing. He's unlikely to make much of an IDP impact, but he'll help the 49ers stop the run.

McDonald was reportedly arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence early Sunday morning, according to sfgate.com.

"The 49ers organization is aware of the recent reports regarding Ray McDonald and we take such matters seriously. As we continue to gather the facts, we will reserve further comment," GM Trent Baalke indicated in a statement, according to NFL.com. The report notes that McDonald's arrest could potentially lead to an extended absence for the defensive lineman, given that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced changes to the league's Personal Conduct Policy in regard to domestic violence last week.

McDonald (biceps) is back at practice and appears to be completely healed from the offseason surgery on his bicep, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Smith had 29 tackles in 2013 and will look to build on that total coming off of successful offseason surgery. He will line up as the starting left defensive end this season.

49ers LE Ray McDonald will undergo surgery to repair his torn biceps.

McDonald tore his biceps in Week 5 but played through it and ended up starting 14 games, racking up 37 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 22 3-4 end out of 45 qualifiers. McDonald was particularly strong against the run. He's under contract for $3.5 million in 2014.
