Patriots released WR Mike Jenkins. The Patriots gave Jenkins a chance to run with the first-team offense throughout the offseason program. Predictably, Molasses Mike failed to distinguish himself. So when training camp opened, he found himself behind Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson at the "X" position, and then continued to tumble behind the likes of Josh Boyce and Julian Edelman. The 31-year-old Jenkins is going to find a soft market.

The Boston Globe thinks Michael Jenkins "shouldn't be feeling too comfortable." Jenkins ran with the first-team offense in the spring -- likely because of his veteran status -- but he's been bypassed with ease in training camp. Barring injury, Molasses Mike isn't expected to be apart of the final 53-man roster.

Michael Jenkins appears to have fallen behind Kamar Aiken and rookie Aaron Dobson early in Patriots camp. That was quick. Jenkins got a ton of first-team reps at spring practices, but he's now behind second-rounder Dobson and special teamer Aiken. ESPN Boston predicts Molasses Mike won't make the team, which is a good sign for the Pats.

Both Mike Reiss and Field Yates of ESPN Boston do not project WR Michael Jenkins as part of the Patriots' final roster. It's interesting because Jenkins ran as the starting "X" receiver through the minicamp season and reportedly handled himself well. But if Aaron Dobson can step up as a starter and buzzworthy UDFA Kenbrell Thompkins continues to shine, Molasses Mike will be in trouble. It's one of fantasy's more interesting position battles to monitor over the next month.

ESPN Boston gives Michael Jenkins a "75 percent" chance of making the Patriots' 53-man roster. Molasses Mike lined up almost exclusively with the starters during the spring at "X" receiver, but that likely had to do with his veteran status. Rookies Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce were also battling minor injuries. Those two will get their chances in training camp. Jenkins offers minimal upside in the passing game, but he can block well on the outside.

Michael Jenkins has usually lined up with the starters during Patriots' OTAs and minicamp. Tom Brady can make a lot of players look good, but he'd be pulling a rabbit out of his hat if he can turn Jenkins into a productive "X" receiver. The 30-year-old veteran struggles to separate from coverage and has zero long speed. Molasses Mike is best used as a blocker and we're still not convinced he's a lock to stick on the Patriots' final roster. Rookies Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce figure to get their big chance at training camp.

Michael Jenkins' one-year contract with the Patriots has a max value of $855,000 and includes no guaranteed money. He didn't even get a signing bonus. Jenkins can earn $15,000 by reporting to offseason workouts, but will have to win a roster spot in training camp before locking in his $840,000 base salary. If the Pats see anything they don't like from Jenkins in the offseason or training camp, they can release the 31-year-old essentially free of charge. He'll be squarely on the roster bubble.

Patriots signed WR Michael Jenkins, formerly of the Vikings. "Molasses Mike" was released by the Vikings more than three weeks ago, and he didn't draw an ounce of known interest in free agency before signing with New England. The deal is likely for the veteran's minimum, and it isn't a guarantee that he'll make the team out of training camp. The soon-to-be 31-year-old can block, but he's not a downfield threat by any stretch of the imagination. Jenkins caught 40 passes for 449 yards and two touchdowns last season in Minnesota.

Vikings released WR Michael Jenkins. Jenkins was due an $825,000 base salary, but the Vikings made sure to release him before his $2.425 million roster bonus came due. Turning 31 in June, "Molasses Mike" has been an ineffective pass-catching receiver for quite some time. He could resurface elsewhere as a No. 4 wideout who plays on blocking downs.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities says it's a "safe assumption" Michael Jenkins will not be back with the Vikings. Jenkins is due a $2.425 million roster bonus in March, and he won't find that money anywhere else on the open market. He's an easy cut. Beat writer Tom Pelissero says the Vikings' receiver corps is going to look "substantially different" in 2013. Jerome Simpson and Devin Aromahsodu are free agents, and Pelissero doesn't expect them to have "much of a marketplace."
