Sheppard has signed with the Giants, Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The 28-year-old, who racked up 105 tackles in 16 games for the Dolphins last season, bolsters the Giants' depth at linebacker, but it remains to be seen if his role in the New York defense will allow him to approach triple-digit tackles again in 2016.

Sheppard finished the 2015 season with 105 tackles.

EDGE Analysis

Very few pundits would've predicted a season with triple digit tackle numbers for Sheppard during training camp but injuries and subpar play allowed him to shine. Unfortunately though big plays were missing from his resume as he didn't record a sack or turnover. He won't be guaranteed a starting job next season as the Dolphins will likely bring in competition at the linebacker spot via free agency and/or the draft.

Sheppard will sign with the Dolphins, The Palm Beach Post reports.

Sheppard's signing comes in wake of linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (hip) being placed on season-ending injured reserve. Now entering his fourth season, Sheppard struggled after being traded to the Colts ahead of last year, as he posted just 46 tackles (20 solo) in 15 games. With Indianapolis opting to release Sheppard just over a week ago, he'll now head to Miami and hold a decent chance of starting at linebacker.

Sheppard has been released by the Colts, ESPN.

The trade for Sheppard didn't end well for the Colts with Jerry Hughes playing well in Buffalo last season.

Sheppard was wearing a walking boot on his lower left leg Tuesday after he was hurt in a collision in Monday's practice, the Indianapolis Star reports.

It's not clear if this is a serious injury, but he's unlikely to play in Thursday's first preseason game.

Colts acquired LB Kelvin Sheppard from the Bills in exchange for LB Jerry Hughes.

The 2011 third-round pick started 24 games the past two seasons, including 15 at MIKE linebacker in 2012. Sheppard may compete with Kavell Conner at left inside linebacker in Indianapolis, but played just 521 snaps despite "starting" last season, and fared poorly against the run. He won't be a factor in IDP leagues.

Bills MLB Kelvin Sheppard is down to 240 pounds after playing in the 250-255 range as a rookie.

Sheppard's rookie season got off to a slow start in no small part because he pulled his hamstring in training camp after arriving roughly 20 pounds overweight. "He showed up in great shape [for OTAs]," said new DC Dave Wannstedt, "and his attitude is good and I think he's excited about this scheme."

Kelvin Sheppard is practicing as the Bills' starting middle linebacker at OTAs.

The Bills have identified last year's third-rounder as a "nucleus" player on defense, after Sheppard racked up 61 tackles in the final nine games. He's quite likely to be an every-down player and impact IDP contributor. The Bills' starting weak-side backer is Nick Barnett, with Kirk Morrison currently at SAM.

New DC Dave Wannstedt has singled out MLB Kelvin Sheppard as a nucleus player on the Bills defense.

"I've got all the confidence in the world with Shep," said Wannstedt. "To me he's about what you're looking for in a 4-3 middle linebacker. ... I think it's going to fit his skills to a 'T'. I think he's going to be a very, very productive player for us." Sheppard is going to be a player to target in IDP formats in 2012.

The Bills will use Kelvin Sheppard at middle linebacker in their new 4-3 defense.

Nick Barnett will likely play the weak side. Sheppard racked up 70 tackles in only nine starts as a third-round rookie and will be an IDP to target fairly early in 2012 drafts. He averaged over 6.5 tackles per start in 2011.
