Edelman (foot) caught one pass for six yards on three targets in Friday's preseason game against the Panthers.

EDGE Analysis

Making his first appearance of the preseason, Edelman played limited snaps with the first-team offense, taking a backseat to Chris Hogan. Edelman's uneventful night consisted of three short targets, with the last of those going for a six-yard gain from Tom Brady (suspension) midway through the second quarter. Edelman is unlikely to play in the final preseason game, as Friday's showing seemingly proved that he's healthy enough for Week 1. He should be ready for a much larger workload once the games count, though he won't get to work with Brady until Week 5.

Edelman (foot) is not expected to see action in Thursday night's preseason game against the Bears, NFL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Edelman, who suffered a minor foot issue in practice last Tuesday, did not play in the Patriots' preseason opener this past Thursday. He's been practicing since then -- and has looked sharp in doing so -- with his anticipated inactivity in the team's second preseason tilt merely a precaution.

Edelman (foot) was a full participant in Sunday's practice, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports.

EDGE Analysis

Edelman missed the Patriots preseason opener after tweaking his surgically repaired foot last week. The team was expected to exercise caution with their No. 1 wide out, so his quick return to practice seems to indicate the tweak was not a big cause for concern. The Kent State product will continue looking to build a rapport with Jimmy Garoppolo who will be under center for the first four games of the season.

Edelman (foot) will likely be out for Thursday's preseason matchup against the Saints, Thomas Kane of Boston.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Edelman is dealing with a short-term injury after tweaking his surgically repaired left foot Tuesday, so the team has no reason to risk the health of their No. 1 receiver during the first preseason game. Other notable names not slated to play include quarterback Tom Brady (suspension) and tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Though Edelman (foot) practiced Wednesday, he wasn't a full participant, ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Still, after leaving Tuesday's practice which led to Edelman having his surgically-repaired left foot examined, his return to the field in short order confirms that his issue did not represent much of a setback, and rather it can be filed away as simply a short-term injury scare.

Edelman (foot) returned to practice Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

Edelman had a scare on Tuesday when it appeared he had re-aggravated a left foot injury, however tests indicated that his foot is fine. It is unclear whether head coach Bill Belichick will be cautious with the wide receiver or let him play as the Patriots head into the preseason.

Tests to evaluate Edelman's possible foot/lower leg injury suggest that he'll be okay and that his departure from practice Tuesday merely represents a "scare," NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

EDGE Analysis

With optimistic reports now trickling in, it appears as though the wideout avoided any notable setback on Tuesday, but we'll nonetheless continue to view Edelman as day-to-day in advance of Thursday's preseason opener against the Saints.

Initial exams suggest that the injury Edelman suffered at practice Tuesday is not believed to be serious, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. ESPN's Mike Reiss previously noted that the wideout's issue "appears to be an injury related to his surgically repaired left foot."

EDGE Analysis

While Rapoport's report is encouraging, Edelman's status should nonetheless be monitored closely in the coming days. At the very least, we suspect that Tuesday's apparent setback could lead to the wideout being limited some in practice and his practice/preseason reps managed carefully. Edelman, who had only returned to practice Sunday after opening training camp on the Patriots' PUP list, broke his foot last season and underwent a second surgery this spring to further address the issue.

Edelman -- who just came off the Patriots' PUP list list Sunday -- took himself out of a drill at practice Tuesday, after possibly aggravating a left foot injury, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.

EDGE Analysis

Per the report, though Edelman was on a cart for a spell, at which time he took off his left shoe, he was able to walk off the field. At this stage, it's too early to know if this represents a minor setback for the wideout, or something that could linger to the extent that Edelman's Week 1 availability comes into question.

Edelman (foot) returned to practice Sunday, the Boston Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

Edelman thus comes off the PUP list "a little earlier than anticipated," Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Meanwhile, the Herald notes that the wideout was able to participate in drills and catch passes Sunday, though he did not participate in the team's scrimmage. Assuming no setbacks down the road, Edelman remains on track to be a high-volume target in the Patriots' offense, which is slated to be helmed by QB Jimmy Garoppolo for the first four regular season games of the 2016 campaign.
