Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton said Friday that McCown (shoulder) has a broken collarbone, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal reports.

EDGE Analysis

Head coach Hue Jackson said the collarbone isn't totally broken, but regardless, McCown can now safely be ruled out for multiple weeks, leaving Cody Kessler with an extended opportunity to serve as the starting quarterback. While not timetable has been reported, McCown will likely be out until at least mid-season, though he's still a better bet than Robert Griffin (shoulder) to have an impact before the end of the year.

Head coach Hue Jackson said McCown will miss Sunday's game against Miami and be week-to-week afterward, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal reports.

EDGE Analysis

McCown played through an injury to his non-throwing shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Ravens, but he faded after a fast start while clearly in pain. Though early reports suggested the injury is likely serious, the Browns have yet to confirm a diagnosis from Monday's MRI. Regardless, rookie fourth-rounder Cody Kessler will make his first NFL start much sooner than originally expected.

McCown (shoulder), who isn't expected to play Sunday against the Dolphins, won't be placed on injured reserve, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.

EDGE Analysis

McCown's potentially-serious shoulder injury will reportedly result in rookie Cody Kessler starting at quarterback Sunday, and possibly for weeks to come, but the veteran McCown not being placed on injured reserve suggests he's expected to return later this season. While it's unclear right now just when McCown may be anticipated to come back, coach Hue Jackson said Monday he'll be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. As it stands, it doesn't sound like McCown will be available anytime soon, but his shoulder injury doesn't seem to be of the season-ending variety given his avoidance of Cleveland's IR list.

Head coach Hue Jackson relayed Monday that McCown (shoulder) isn't expected to play Sunday against the Dolphins and will be week-to-week thereafter.

EDGE Analysis

McCown brushed off a shoulder injury and played the entirety of the Browns' Week 2 defeat to the Ravens, finishing 20 of 33 for 260 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Standard operating procedure resulted in an MRI being ordered up, and while Jackson didn't relay the nature of the ailment, it's severe enough to force McCown to the sideline this Sunday. With Robert Griffin (shoulder) already out for a significant spell, Jackson was safe enough in his knowledge of McCown's situation to state, "There's a good chance Cody Kessler will start this week."

McCown's shoulder injury suffered Sunday against the Ravens in believed to be serious, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

McCown is slated to undergo an MRI on his non-throwing shoulder Monday, but like teammate Robert Griffin last week, that testing is anticipated to reveal serious damage. That would figure to sideline McCown for a significant period of time, leaving rookie third-rounder Cody Kessler as the only quarterback left on the Browns' current roster. While the results of McCown's MRI will need to be confirmed first, it wouldn't be surprising if Cleveland is forced to sign a veteran quarterback to mitigate what could be another tough blow to their options at the position already this season.

McCown, who battled through a left shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Ravens, is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday, the Cleveland Pain Dealer reports.

EDGE Analysis

The report notes that at this stage McCown plans to play next Sunday against the Dolphins, but adds that NFL Network has relayed fears that the QB's shoulder issue could be serious. In such a scenario, rookie Cody Kessler would be in line to start to start at QB for the Browns in Week 3.

McCown will assume the Browns' starting quarterback job in wake of teammate Robert Griffin (shoulder) being placed on injured reserve Monday, ESPN.com's Pat McManamon reports.

EDGE Analysis

McCown is now stranger to the Browns' starting position, as he led the team's offense for eight games last season, finishing with 2,109 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. That being said, the Browns went 1-7 in McCown's starts and he was beaten out by Griffin for the starting gig leading up to this season. It's worth noting, though, that McCown's lone win came in spectacular fashion against the Ravens, who the Browns are scheduled to face in Week 2 this Sunday. Although a supporting cast of wide receivers Corey Coleman, Terrelle Pryor, Andrew Hawkins, and eventually, Josh Gordon, is superior to last season's targets, and McCown developed an outstanding rapport with tight end Gary Barnidge last term, the 37-year-old has proven to be an underwhelming fantasy quarterback through his career. With McCown being bumped up to starter, rookie third-rounder Cody Kessler is expected to serve as his backup going forward.

McCown completed eight of 15 passes for 73 yards and also threw an interception against Chicago on Thursday night.

EDGE Analysis

McCown averaged just 4.9 yards per completion, but he was able to hook up with Darius Jennings for a 25-yard gain in relief of Robert Griffin. The 37-year-old was, however, picked off by Jacoby Glenn in the second quarter, as Glenn jumped the route on a pass intended for Josh Gordon. McCown has been the subject of trade rumors recently, but all signs point to him beginning the season with the Browns.

Even though the Vikings are likely to have interest in him, McCown is unlikely to be moved, a href="https://twitter.com/MaryKayCabot/status/771043841516462080">Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

With Teddy Bridgewater out for the season with a torn ACL, the Vikings are on the hunt for QB help, and McCown is a likely target. But the Browns seem keen on keeping the 37-year-old veteran around. That seems like the smart move, as Robert Griffin -- a quarterback known for his mobility -- has an extensive injury history. Cleveland will need a capable backup who's ready to take over on a moment's notice, and McCown is clearly more capable of filling that need over rookie third-stringer Cody Kessler.

McCown completed just six of 11 passes for 65 yards against Tampa Bay on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

Like Robert Griffin, McCown was under for duress most of Friday night, which contributed to his poor accuracy, and ended up getting sacked twice. Granted, Joe Thomas wasn't in the game when McCown took over for Griffin, but Cleveland's offensive line is something to watch during the regular season. If Griffin suffers an injury and is forced to miss time, McCown would be a decent fantasy option, as he's already proven he's a capable starting QB.
