Evans announced his retirement Monday, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

In three years with the Jaguars from 2013-15, Evans played in at least 15 games and registered 50-plus tackles in all three seasons. His best campaign came in 2014, when he tallied 90 tackles (62 solos), two passes defended and two fumbles recovered. However, since 2015, the Florida product has only seen action in two NFL games and has ultimately decided to call it quits on his pro career.

Evans was released by the Redskins on Thursday, Stephen Czarda of the Redskins' official site reports.

Evans and fellow safety Earl Wolff were sent packing on Thursday as the team decided to bring in two new safeties for training camp, Stefan McClure and Tim Scott. Evans appears to have a firm grasp on the starting free safety job after Winston Guy was cut Monday, the Florida Times-Union reports. The Jags parted ways with Guy after a string of poor performances to open the season, which should leave Evans as the unquestioned starter. Evans, whose foot injury opened the door for Guy to start, replaced Guy in the second half of the Indianapolis game in Week 3 and started Week 4's loss to San Diego.
