Abraham (concussion) is "50-50" whether he'll return for a 15th season in 2015, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports.

Abraham suffered a concussion in Week 1 this past season, and after entering the NFL's protocol for head injuries, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the linebacker had been suffering from memory loss for more than a year, raising speculation that he may have played his last professional down. Indeed, Abraham was soon placed on season-ending injured reserve, and the Cardinals' dearth of linebacker depth forced defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to turn to five or six defensive backs on most plays. With Bowles' departure during the offseason to coach the Jets, the Cardinals elevated outside linebackers coach James Bettcher to helm the defense. Bettcher's direction helped Abraham accumulate 11.5 sacks during his first campaign with the Cardinals in 2013, meaning the pass rusher's return could be contingent upon his health status, not to mention how the organization proceeds in free agency and the upcoming draft.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Abraham did not pass his concussion test Tuesday.

Though Abraham rejoined the Cardinals on Tuesday after briefly pondering retirement, it doesn't appear likely that he'll be sufficiently recovered from the concussion in time for Sunday's Week 3 tilt with the 49ers. The Cardinals will have a bye the week after, which could allow Abraham to return to action in Week 5, resulting in him missing just two games. Any return, however, will be contingent on Abraham ultimately passing all concussion tests. It's certainly not a given with the 36-year-old complaining of memory loss after his most recent head injury.

Abraham took a leave from the Cardinals' team last week after enduring another concussion, which reportedly coincides with the 15-year veteran already suffering from memory loss. Nonetheless, Abraham has apparently decided to re-join Arizona on Tuesday, when he's anticipated to get cleared to play following his most recent concussion. Should that happen, Abraham would be in contention to play this Sunday against the 49ers.

Per Schefter, Abraham has been enduring memory loss for more than a year, meaning the pass rusher could be contemplating retirement. The loss would be another blow to a Cardinals defense that lost last year's leading tackler, Karlos Dansby, in free agency, Daryl Washington to suspension, and Darnell Dockett to a torn ACL. If Abraham's career is indeed over, Sam Acho is the leading candidate to cover the other outside linebacker spot opposite Matt Shaughnessy.
