Mayo -- who tore his patellar tendon last October -- is not yet 100 percent, ESPN.com reports.

Mayo, who recorded 53 tackles in six games for the Patriots last season, has yet to see the field through the team's OTAs and minicamp and it's unclear how much work he'll be able to see once training camp starts. Once Mayo reestablishes his health, however, the 29-year-old is in line start at linebacker for the Pats, along with Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins.

Mayo, who tore his patellar tendon in Week 6, indicated that his injury rehab has been going well, the Boston Herald reports.

While Mayo -- who landed on IR with the injury -- indicated he's "right on schedule" in his recovery, the linebacker isn't sure if he will be ready in time for the Patriots' offseason workouts, which begin in April. Prior to suffering his knee injury, Mayo recorded 53 tackles and one sack in six games for the Patriots. Per WEEI.com, Mayo -- who is signed through the end of the 2017 campaign -- is a candidate to have his contract restructured this offseason, given his cap hit of $10.6 million next season.

Mayo underwent surgery Thursday to repair the patella tendon in his right knee, csnne.com reports.

The report indicates that Mayo's recovery is expected to take about six months, with the linebacker expected to land on IR in the coming days. Mayo (knee) has been ruled out for the season, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Mayo was carted off the field Sunday against the Bills after suffering a lower-leg injury. He underwent an MRI on Monday, and while the team has not provided an official diagnosis, Mayo's injury is severe enough that it will keep him out for the remainder of the 2014 season. This is the second consecutive year in which Mayo has suffered a season-ending injury, as he was lost to a torn pectoral a year ago to the day.

Mayo was using crutches and sporting a compression sleeve over his right knee after Sunday's win over the Bills, ESPN.com reports.

We'll track Mayo's status in the coming days, but it looks like the linebacker is destined to miss time due to the injury, and perhaps a significant amount of it.

Mayo suffered an apparent leg injury in Sunday's game against Buffalo and was carted off the field, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports. He will not return.

This one didn't look good. The entire defense took a knee around Mayo while he was on the ground, and Bill Belichick went onto the field to check on one of the most important pieces of the Patriots' defense. Deontae Skinner replaced Mayo.
