Cumberland (Achilles) was placed on the Chargers' injured reserve list Monday, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

EDGE Analysis

Cumberland suffered a torn Achilles' tendon Friday during the Chargers' second preseason game against the Cardinals, ending his 2016 campaign before it had even started. When healthy, he'll hit the free agent market as an unrestricted free agent in 2017.

Cumberland (torn achilles) announced Saturday that he will miss the entire 2016 campaign, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

EDGE Analysis

Cumberland suffered what appeared to be a very serious leg injury during Friday's preseason contest with the Cardinals. With the fate of his health now known, Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry surface as the only legitimate receiving threats at tight end for the Chargers. While Gates is likely to consume most of Philip Rivers' targets, Henry has been an impressive weapon and could be of some service this season.

Cumberland left Friday's preseason game with an apparently serious left leg injury, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Michael Gehlken reports.

EDGE Analysis

He came up lame while trying to chase down a pass in the end zone, and came up favoring his left leg. Cumberland was then carted into the locker room for further evaluation with a towel hanging over his head. Even a healthy Cumberland would have struggled to be a viable fantasy option in most formats this season, as he was trailing Antonio Gates, among others, on the depth chart.

The Chargers and Cumberland agreed to a one-year contract Monday, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

Cumberland joins a tight-end group composed entirely of undrafted free agents, though the leader of the corps is among the top receiving TE in NFL history (Antonio Gates). As the second-most experienced body, Cumberland is coming off a campaign in which he recorded five catches (on 13 targets) for 77 yards with the Jets. It's difficult to project a significant role for the soon-to-be 29-year-old in 2016.

The Jets have released Cumberland, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

EDGE Analysis

Per the report, the move saves the Jets $1.9 million against their 2016 salary cap, though with Cumberland coming off a five-catch effort in 2015, he's off the fantasy radar unless he resurfaces in an ideal situation.

Cumberland was active, but didn't see a pass target Sunday against the Bills.

EDGE Analysis

Cumberland ended the season with five receptions for 77 yards and only saw a single pass target over his last seven games. Next year, he'll enter the last year of a three-year contract with the Jets. In the current Jets offensive scheme, it's unlikely that he'll ever be featured in the offense.

Cumberland played but was not targeted Thursday against the Bills.

EDGE Analysis

After seeing three targets in three straight games, Cumberland was shut out of the box score. It appears the Jets prefer to throw the overwhelming majority of their passes to their wide receivers.
