Mike Tolbert had seven carries for 35 yards in Thursday night's Week 8 win over the Bucs, adding four catches for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Tolbert was used in a change-of-pace role behind DeAngelo Williams and remained the preferred option in pass protection and the red-zone. It was the most involved he's been in a game the season, with his touchdown coming on a three-yard pass from Cam Newton in the fourth quarter. Tolbert will struggles for carries when Jonathan Stewart (ankle) returns. He's a low-upside RB4 in fantasy leagues.
Low upside, maybe, but last night he earned his keep. With all the injuries, around the league, some waiver wires are pretty thin. Tolbert was worth having on the roster, Stewart's return means you can release Tolbert, but ready to pick him back up, as JStew tends to be injury prone.
JStew has no guarantee to even play when he comes back (and IF he actually comes back alive). Tolbert is the preferred option to keep on your roster right now.
