Indianapolis head coach Chuck Pagano said the Colts will monitor Gore's workload very closely in the regular season, the Colts' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pagano didn't get into specifics about Gore's expected workload, but the 10-year veteran has averaged 18 touches (16 carries, two receptions) per game over the past four seasons. Does putting Gore on a pitch count mean less than that? Given how much the Colts want the ball in Andrew Luck's hands, there would be plenty of opportunities to rest Gore, while giving him enough carries to be an effective balance to the passing attack. But the Colts aren't exactly stocked with healthy or experienced backups right now. Resting Gore would mean added reps for rookie backups Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga.

Chuck Pagano said on Wednesday that the Colts will monitor Gore’s workload very closely in the regular season. Gore will be on a pitch count as he enters his 11th NFL campaign. With Gore’s reps being charted, Pagano wouldn’t delve into specifics on what the roles will be for backups Josh Robinson/Tyler Varga this weekend.
