Whitner is expected to see increased action in the nickel position alongside Duke Ihenacho at strong safety this season.

EDGE Analysis

After David Burton (concussion) was placed on the IR, Washington brought in the veteran Whitner to sure-up the secondary. In his second game with the team, the 31-year-old recorded four tackles on 40 defensive snaps. Head coach Jay Gruden said of the safety situation, "You start with Duke and Donte is going to play a lot. It might depend on the package. It might be more nickel for Donte, it might be more base for Duke, or what have you. That's something that we'll decide on a week-to-week basis and a game-to-game basis depending on who we're playing." Look for Whitner to see a similar snap count this weekend against the Lions.

Whitner signed a contract with the Redskins on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

EDGE Analysis

Whitner has visited with several teams over the past couple months and his signing with the Redskins comes shortly after the team placed both DeAngelo Hall and David Bruton on IR. With the Browns last year, Whitner had 81 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four passes defensed, and a forced fumble. He'll likely be the backup to Duke Ihenacho and Will Blackmon, but Whitner could still start to see snaps right away.

Whitner will work out for the Panthers on Friday, NFL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Whitner totaled 187 tackles over his two-year stint with the Browns, but was released by the team in April. With the Panthers losing safety Roman Harper to the Saints this offseason, Tre Boston has been promoted to their starting position, so signing Whitner would restore a veteran presence to help the depth of Carolina's secondary.

Whitner will visit with the Rams this week, NFL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Whitner was released by the Browns earlier this month, ending a two-year stint in Cleveland that included 187 total tackles. On the back of such production, Whitner has drawn interest from the Rams, who lost safety Rodney McLeon in free agency. With only three safeties on the Rams' current roster, Whitner could add valuable experience to Los Angeles' secondary, should a contract agreement surface from his visit.

Whitner was released by the Browns on Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

EDGE Analysis

Whitner had a solid season in Cleveland, during which he was the second leading tackler on the team with 81 combined tackles to go along with 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. With as much productivity he had during his 2015-16 campaign, it's a bit of a surprise the Browns aren't keeping the 30-year-old around. Expect Whitner to sign on with another squad, but his IDP fantasy value may take a hit.

Whitner, who had just one tackle in Week 17, finished the year second on the team with 81 combined tackles (58 solo), 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

EDGE Analysis

Whitner may have been able to flirt with last season's team-leading total, but he missed two games earlier in the year due to a concussion. He broke a streak of recording an interception in five straight seasons, but still managed a career-best sack total, as the Browns seemingly had to get more creative with their pass rush scheme. At 30 years old, he'll have several more seasons under contract to cement his legacy in the league, though his year's as a productive IDP option may be dwindling.

Whitner (concussion) is listed as active for Monday night's game against the Ravens.

EDGE Analysis

Whitner, who has missed two straight games, is thus set to resume his strong safety duties in tandem with free safety Tashaun Gipson, a bit of good news for the Browns' secondary, with cornerback Joe Haden ruled out Monday. To date, Whitner has racked up 55 tackles and a forced fumbles in eight games.

EDGE Analysis

Whitner has missed the last two games due to a concussion he suffered in a Week 8 loss to the Cardinals. His status for Sunday is still unknown, but returning to practice is a good sign for Browns' fans. An official decision on his status for Sunday should be made on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

The Browns have lost multiple starters due to concussions this season, particularly in the secondary. Whitner, one such causality due to the head injury, will now miss his second consecutive game, but with the the Browns on bye next week the 30-year-old will have an additional week to rest and recover before Week 12's contest against the Ravens.
