Free agent S Deon Grant announced his retirement.

Grant, 34, will sign a one-day contract with the Giants. He was out of the league last year, but spent the previous two seasons in New York and won a Super Bowl with the team in 2011. The 12-year veteran missed his entire rookie season, but he played in all 16 games each season from 2001-11. Grant finishes a productive career with 776 tackles, 30 interceptions, and 6.5 sacks.

The Giants have not reached out to free agent S Deon Grant in recent weeks.

Grant was told earlier in the summer that he remained under consideration for the Giants, but the New York Daily News reports he's heard nothing since. That could change after the Giants' secondary was exposed in the season opener.

Grant played a whopping 79.9 percent of the Giants' defensive snaps in 2011, primarily because they didn't have a nickel corner.
