Walls has agreed to terms with the Lions, ESPN's Michael Rothstein reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

The contract is a one-year, minimum-salary deal. Through five seasons in the league, the undrafted Notre Dame product has accrued 75 tackles (11 on special teams), as well as 22 pass breakups and three picks across 54 games, including 16 starts. In 2011, Walls spent his rookie year with Atlanta, then joined the Jets the next season where he looked to be an ascending talent, as his stats increased year-to-year from 2012 to 2014. However, the Jets welcomed back CB Darrelle Revis in 2015 and Walls didn't manage a single start throughout the entire campaign. Subsequently, Walls' production fell off a cliff, and the Jets decided against keeping him in the fold. Now with the Lions, he'll compete for a starting gig following the retirement of Rashean Mathis, though Walls will likely prove to be a depth signing and special teams contributor.

Walls recorded two interceptions and two tackles Thursday against the Eagles.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Walls is fighting for a starting safety spot for the Jets, and he's definitely making a case to see significant snaps during the regular season. He has performed admirably in the preseason, and his effort in this game only helps his situation.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Walls stands a great chance to start the year at safety for the Jets, as the team is quite thin at the position.

Jets re-signed restricted free agent CB Darrin Walls.

Walls appeared in all 16 games last season, starting three at cornerback while rookie Dee Milliner was benched. In total, he played 292 defensive snaps and batted away four passes. Walls likely is coming back at the fourth-year veteran's minimum. We doubt he was tendered at the $1 million-plus level as an RFA.

Both players were undrafted free agents. It's doubtful either player resurfaces.
