Dan Orlovsky QB DET (10) 6 days ago
The Lions informed Orlovsky that he will not be re-signed this offseason, The Detroit Free Press reports.
Over the weekend, Orlovsky was told the team will let his contract expire at the end of the league year in order to go in a different direction at backup quarterback. The main beneficiary in this situation is Jake Rudock, the Lions' sixth-round pick in 2016 who will replace Orlovsky as the No. 2. It isn't clear what sort of market awaits the 33-year-old veteran, but he should be able to latch on somewhere due to his serviceability as a second-string signal caller as well as the veteran presence he could provide a locker room.

Orlovsky didn't attempt a single pass throughout the entire 2016 season.
Nearly every game the Lions played in 2016 was competitive to the very end. In fact, 12 of their 16 total games were decided by seven points or less. Consequently, Orlovsky was never called upon to play in relief of starting quarterback Matthew Stafford and will now go without having thrown a pass in two of his three seasons with Detroit.

Orlovsky completed eight of 14 passes for 83 yards and an interception in Thursday's preseason game against the Bengals.
Orlovsky was much better in Detroit's first preseason game, and in any case, he doesn't appear to have competition for the top backup job. If the Lions do retain sixth-round rookie Jake Rudock, it will likely just be as the No. 3 quarterback, which usually comes with inactive status on gamedays.

Orlovsky re-signed with the Lions on Friday, James Jahnke of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The terms of the contract are not disclosed, but Orlovsky will remain in Detroit for at least another season. The 32-year-old has cemented himself as Matthew Stafford's backup, appearing in two games last season.

Orlovsky completed 21-of-38 passes for 191 yards, with one touchdown and an interception, in Sunday's 42-17 loss to Arizona.
Orlovsky entered the game midway through the third quarter for an ineffective Matthew Stafford, who tossed three interceptions. The backup QB was able to move the ball a bit in the second half, but he did not lead the Lions to a touchdown until the 1:36 mark of the fourth quarter, when he hit Lance Moore on a 13-yard score. Stafford is Detroit's franchise QB, for better or worse, so don't expect Orlovsky to start anytime soon.

Orlovsky signed a one-year deal with the Lions on Monday, the team's official website reports.
One again forced to make some difficult personnel decisions, the Lions will go cheap at the backup quarterback spot, allowing for spending elsewhere. The team does seem to value Orlovsky to some extent, as it would be even cheaper to go with either Kellen Moore or a late-round pick in the upcoming draft. Still, Orlovsky has never impressed when given the chance, and he's probably one of the lesser backup quarterbacks in the league.

Orlovsky completed 4-of-7 passes for 51 yards during the 2014 season.
Orlovsky saw a bit of action in a blowout loss to the Saints in December, but he otherwise spent the season watching Matthew Stafford from the sidelines. Orlovsky may not be back with the Lions in 2015, as he can become an unrestricted free agent in March, and Detroit always has a tight cap situation. Kellen Moore, the team's No. 3 quarterback in 2014, will be a restricted free agent.

Lions signed QB Dan Orlovsky, formerly of the Bucs, to a one-year contract.
As expected. Orlovsky, 31 in August, was said to be at the top of the Lions' list for No. 2 duties after failing to re-sign Shaun Hill and missing out on Luke McCown. Orlovsky started five games for Lions coach Jim Caldwell's Colts in 2011.

The Detroit Free Press reports free agent QB Dan Orlovsky is believed to be at the top of the Lions' wish list for No. 2 duties.
Orlovsky was drafted by the Lions in the fifth round of the 2005 draft and started seven games for Detroit in 2008. He was also part of one of the most laughable plays in recent memory when he ran out of the back of his own end zone unknowingly. The Lions are looking for a veteran backup for Matthew Stafford.

Bucs re-signed QB Dan Orlovsky.
Orlovsky, who turns 30 before the season, lasted on the street just four days after his release by the Bucs in what was said to be a procedural move. Orlovsky appeared in only one game in 2012. He went 15-for-20 passing (75 percent) in the preseason with 150 yards (7.5 YPA), one touchdown, and one pick. Orlovsky is considered more of a third-stringer than quality No. 2 quarterback.
