Wootton (pectoral) announced his retirement Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.

EDGE Analysis

A 2010 fourth-round selection, Wootton spent his first four years with the Bears before moving on to the Vikings in 2014. He then signed with the Lions in 2015, but missed the entire season after suffering a torn pectoral during the preseason. He'll retire at the age of 29, with 12 sacks and 86 tackles in 60 career games.

Wootton (pectoral) has been placed on injured reserve, Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News reports.

EDGE Analysis

Wootton tore his pectoral in the closing minutes of the Lions' preseason finale against Buffalo. Despite his two-sack performance against Jacksonville in the Lions' third preseason game, Wootton likely would have been on the outside looking in even if he were healthy as he sat behind Ziggy Ansah, Jason Jones, Darryl Tapp, Devin Taylor and Phillip Hunt on the depth chart.

Wootton collected two sacks in the Lions' preseason win over Jacksonville on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

After starting his career in Chicago and then Minnesota, Wootton is continuing his tour of the NFC North this summer with Detroit, but may not be around for much longer. Despite his strong performance on Friday, Wootton looks to be on the outside looking in just based off of the number of teammates he's competing with. With Ziggy Ansah, Jason Jones, Devin Taylor and Darryl Tapp all all but guaranteed a roster spot, Wootton finds himself competing with Larry Webster and Phillip Hunt for the fifth defensive end spot - presuming Detroit carries five defensive ends.

The Lions have signed Wootton, the Detroit News reports.

Wootton can play either defensive tackle or defensive end, though with the Lions he figures to compete with Darryl Tapp, Devin Taylor, Larry Webster and Phillip Hunt for DE playing time behind starters Jason Jones and Ezekiel Ansah.

Wootton (back) is active for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.

Wootton will provide depth on the Minnesota defensive line, although he has only been on the field for more than 20 snaps on defense once this season.

Wootton (back) is probable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

Wootton is just a rotational lineman for the Vikings and he therefore isn't much of an IDP consideration, but he should provide some useful energy off the bench.

Wooten (back) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.

He missed last week's game with a sore lower back, but it looks like he could return this week to add depth to Minnesota's defensive line.

Wooten (back) will not play Sunday against Buffalo, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

With Wooten out, 2014 third-round draft pick Scott Crichton will likely get more playing time.

Free agent DL Corey Wootton (hip surgery) said he expects to be 100 percent healthy by July.

Wootton underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum following the season. "I'm probably going to test the market and see what's out there," Wootton staid about free agency. "I'm just really excited to see what's going on. Obviously, I would like to stay with the Bears, but I don't know how it's looking." Wootton isn't expected back in Chicago but should draw significant interest as a versatile lineman.
