The Jets have added Owusu to their active roster.

Owusu gets the promotion from the Jets' practice squad to serve as a depth wideout for the team, with fellow wideout Greg Salas having landed on IR on Thursday.

Owusu was released by the Jets on Saturday.

He was at the bottom of the depth chart at wide receiver, and he now carries even less fantasy value.

The Jets plan to sign Owusu, Manish Mehta of the Daily News reports.

Owusu, who was recently let go by the Bucs, is thus slated to join fellow newcomer T.J. Graham in the Jets' depth wideout mix, following the team's release of Jalen Saunders.

The Buccaneers waived Owusu on Tuesday, Sports Talk Florida reports.

Owusu caught two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown in three games this season. The reason for his release was not provided, and it remains to be seen who will replace him on Tampa Bay's roster.

Owusu was not targeted in the Bucs' 56-14 loss to the Falcons on Thursday.

After starting the season with a 19-yard touchdown reception in Week 1 against Carolina, Owusu has been a non-factor for two consecutive weeks.

Owusu had two receptions for 20 yards and a touchdown Sunday in a loss to the Panthers.

Owusu was only targeted twice, but made the most of them and was able to get free for a 19-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Owusu is the Buccaneers' starter on kickoff returns entering Week 1, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Owusu will handle the Buccaneers' kickoff return duties, while running back Bobby Rainey will take back punts. While return duties could boost Owusu's value in some scoring formats, the fact that Louis Murphy (back) is still not practicing has Owusu edging toward the Buccaneers' No. 3 wideout role, which further advances his fantasy stock.

Robert Herron got the nod over Owusu as the No. 3 wide receiver in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

None of Herron, Owusu, Louis Murphy and Tim Wright impressed, but based on the usage, Herron can perhaps be considered a slight favorite to open the year as Tampa's No. 3 wide receiver. The role doesn't figure to be very lucrative, as Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans, Doug Martin and the tight ends figure to command nearly all of Josh McCown's attention.

Mike Evans started over Owusu in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins, FOX Sports 1's Jenna Laine reports.

Owusu is listed as a starter on the depth chart, but Evans has always been expected to get the nod come Week 1. The Bucs apparently have an aversion to putting rookies at the top of the depth chart, as second-round tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is listed fourth at his position. While Owusu doesn't figure to beat out Evans, it probably means something that he -- and not another player -- is listed ahead of the rookie on the depth chart. The Bucs have no obvious No. 3 wide receiver, and Owusu is one of the options, according to ESPN's Pat Yasinkas, who also mentions undrafted rookie Robert Herron and nominal tight end Tim Wright. The trio combined for two receptions and nine receiving on five targets Saturday, with Owusu registering just a target.

Coach Lovie Smith continued to throw praise in WR Chris Owusu's direction this week.

"Chris Owusu has been pretty good from day one," Smith said. "He's one that has caught my attention from the first minicamp all the way through." Smith pointed to Owusu last month at voluntary workouts as a player that was catching his eye. The former UDFA out of Stanford will compete with Robert Herron and other for the No. 3 job behind Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans this summer.
