Carter agreed to terms with the Jets, SportsTalkFLA's Jenna Laine reports.

EDGE Analysis

Carter has rare athleticism for a linebacker, but instincts, durability and general effectiveness have been an issue his whole career. It's possible that coach Todd Bowles could get Carter to overachieve, though.

Carter was released by the Bucs on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the Buccanneers official site reports.

EDGE Analysis

The 28-year-old will be on the hunt for a new team for the second consecutive offseason, after posting a career-low 47 stops over 14 games in 2015. Carter's Bucs stint got off on shaky footing when he was beaten out by rookie Kwon Alexander for the middle linebacker job early in training camp, a spot he was unable to regain until Alexander began serving his four-game PED suspension in December. Carter did acquit himself reasonably well in his starting opportunities, posting 28 stops and two sacks over three games. A solid tackler with sideline-to-sideline speed, Carter should find some interest in the open market, most likely during the second wave of free agency.

The Bucs are expected to release Carter, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

Carter, a notable free agent signing by the Bucs last year, lost the team's starting middle linebacker job this past season to Kwon Alexander, and wound up with 47 tackles and two sacks in 14 games in 2015, including just three starts.

Carter tallied 12 tackles (five solo) and a sack in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Panthers.

EDGE Analysis

The 27-year-old was outstanding in leading the Bucs defense in stops on the afternoon, and he amassed 28 tackles over the last three weeks while filling in for the suspended Kwon Alexander. He also impressively brought down the quarterback twice over the final three games, coming just one short of the total he amassed in his four-year Cowboys career. Carter was also second amongst the linebackers in sacks despite only starting the last three games of the season. Although he was signed as a free agent with the intention of having him man the Mike linebacker position in Lovie Smith's defense, Carter managed to keep a positive attitude after getting beat out by Alexander in preseason, and proved his worth in the latter's stead the last three weeks. A good tackler with sideline-to-sideline speed, Carter will provide outstanding depth in the middle in 2016, and could very well compete for one of the outside linebacker spots.

Carter posted eight tackles (four solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Bears.

EDGE Analysis

The five-year pro was back on the field as the suspended Kwon Alexander's replacement, after having missed the Week 15 tilt against the Rams with foot and ankle injuries. Carter matched the season high in tackles that he'd amassed in his first start in Alexander's stead in Week 14, while also recording his second pass defensed of the season. The 27-year-old will get the call again in the season finale against the Panthers, and figures to be in for another active afternoon against Carolina's run-heavy attack and the rushing threat that Cam Newton presents.

Carter (ankle) is active Sunday against the Bears.

EDGE Analysis

After putting in three full practices this week, Carter will be in the lineup at middle linebacker. Despite his presence in the lineup, he's only been on the field for more than 20 snaps a single time this season. That said, his presence is a boost to the Bucs rushing defense.

Carter (foot) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Rams.

EDGE Analysis

Carter did a nice job filling in for Kwon Alexander (suspension) last week, but the Bucs will now turn to Danny Lansanah at middle linebacker. Carter could miss time beyond Week 15 and is no lock to return this season.

Carter (foot/ankle) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game at St. Louis, the Buccaneers official site reports.

EDGE Analysis

Carter's doubtful designation comes as no surprise, considering he's been wearing a walking boot and had to be helped off the field in the final series versus the Saints last Sunday. Carter did not practice Wednesday, and Danny Lansanah is expected to slide into his starting middle linebacker role against the Rams.

Carter (foot/ankle) was wearing a boot at Tuesday's practice, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

Carter went down in Tampa's final series against the Saints in Week 14, and is highly unlikely to play in Thursday's game versus the Rams. The 27-year-old was solid in his first game as the suspended Kwon Alexander's replacement, and tallied one of the Bucs' two sacks of Drew Brees in Week 14. The five-year pro would likely be replaced by Danny Lansanah in the middle in Week 15.

Carter (ankle/foot) totaled eight tackles (six solo), including two tackles for loss, and a sack in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Saints.

EDGE Analysis

The fifth-year pro did an admirable job in his first game in the suspended Kwon Alexander's stead, but had to be carried to the locker room after suffering foot and ankle injuries on Tampa's final defensive series. Carter looked decisive and stout manning the middle, but is highly unlikely to take the field in Week 15, with the Bucs' matchup against the Rams taking place on Thursday night.
