Meriweather (knee) has been released by the Giants on Wednesday, NJ.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Giants parted ways with the eight-year veteran on Wednesday in order to make room for the signing of defensive lineman Barry Cofield. Meriweather was signed during training camp and started in 11 games before going down with a knee injury. He has 53 tackles and two interceptions on the season. Meriweather could find his way onto a roster in need of secondary depth.

Meriweather (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets.

EDGE Analysis

With Meriweather unable to play for the first time this season, Craig Dahl is the favorite to start alongside Landon Collins. It won't necessarily be a downgrade for the New York defense, as Meriweather misses a lot of tackles and often struggles in coverage. Collins is easily the superior IDP option.

Meriweather was initially listed as limited in drills, but it was later revealed that he underwent an MRI after Wednesday's practice, revealing the aggravation and subsequent absence. As a result, his third consecutive DNP could very well come to pass, especially since the results of the exam are unknown.

Meriweather (toe) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Rams.

Washington is beat up in the secondary, with Meriweather and Chase Minnifield out and E.J. Biggers and Ryan Clark hobbled. Phillip Thomas, who has been limited to just four games in two NFL seasons due to injuries, will likely start in Meriweather's place.
