Carr agreed to a pay cut for the 2016 season, freeing up over $3.5 million in cap space for the Cowboys, The Dallas Morning News reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

He was set to make $9.1 million in the final year of the contract he signed with the Cowboys back in 2012, but with no guaranteed money left on the deal Carr could have been simply cut after June 1. The new deal keeps Carr in Dallas with a base salary of $4.25 million, which could increase to $6 million after bonuses.

Carr finished the 2015 season with a career-high 76 tackles, but failed to intercept a pass for the season straight season.

Competitive Edge Analysis

The tackles gave him a little IDP value in deep formats, but the veteran cornerback has one more season left on his contract and his declining performance could result in Carr being a cap casualty in the offseason. The Cowboys have depth issues at DB, however, so depending on how they address the position in the draft, Carr could end up sticking around for one more year in Dallas.

Carr (hand) was back at practice Tuesday and is expected to be in the lineup for Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings, DallasCowboys.com reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

The Cowboys need Carr to be at 100 percent by Week 1 with Orlando Scandrick now lost for the season with a torn ACL, so it's encouraging that he's back on the field so quickly after hand surgery. Expect Carr to start at cornerback opposite Mo Claiborne when the regular season begins.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr underwent successful surgery Monday to repair a broken bone in his right hand, according to the Dallas Morning News. Carr sustained the injury during Saturday's practice and flew back to Dallas for the procedure. The injury is not believed to be serious, as former teammate DeMarco Murray played in a game just five days after suffering a similar issue last season, and the largest obstacle blocking Carr's return to practice is how quickly the incision heals. “We don’t think it’s serious,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said Saturday. “The biggest thing with this is getting the surgery done correctly, which we’re confident is going to happen, and then handling the incision and see what he’s capable of doing.” Carr is unlikely to participate in Dallas' preseason game against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday, but his availability for the start of the regular season is not believed to be in jeopardy.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr will undergo surgery Monday to repair a broken right hand, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Carr, who suffered the injury Thursday, is not expected to miss a significant time. "He is going to be out for a little bit here," head coach Jason Garrett said. "We do not think it is serious. It is a similar injury to what DeMarco Murray had last year when he played in the game, four or five days later. The biggest thing with this is getting the surgery done correctly, which we are confident is going to happen, and then handling the incision and see what he is capable of doing." A timetable for Carr's return is expected to be announced after Monday's procedure, but the Garrett said he likely will be available for the start of the regular season.

Carr's agent, Ben Dogra, says his client won't restructure his contract to take a pay cut, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Carr himself wouldn't discuss the situation, so this could simply be posturing on Dogra's part. The Cowboys selection of cornerback Byron Jones 27th overall in the draft, however, means that Carr may well have to accept a restructure if he wants to avoid being a post-June 1 cut.

Carr (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

As the Cowboys' top cornerback, Carr has only put up 25 tackles (21 solo) and five passes defended in eight outings, meaning potential owners should look elsewhere for production.

Carr, who missed the early part of camp due to his mother's passing, isn't likely to play Saturday, David Helman of DallasCowboys.com reports.

He'll still have a couple of preseason games in which to get up to speed. With Orlando Scanrick suspended to begin the season and Mo Claiborne hurt once again, the Cowboys need Carr to provide some stability in their secondary.
