Walsh converted both of his field goal attempts Sunday and also went 2-for-2 on extra points in Minnesota's win over Green Bay.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Walsh finished out the year having made 12 consecutive field goals dating back to Minnesota's Nov. 29 win over Atlanta and was a perfect 4-for-4 from 50+ yards in that span. He made a league-high 34 field goals this season and showed consistent ability to convert from long range as he converted 12-of-15 FGA from 40 yards or more, making him one of the more valuable kickers in 2015. Perhaps more importantly, Walsh demonstrated the ability to bounce back from a shaky 2014 season in which he converted a league-worst 74.3 percent of his field goals.

Walsh made 1-of-2 field goal attempts, missing from 44 yards, in Monday's loss to San Francisco. After going just 5-of-11 on field goals in the preseason, he appeared to lose the confidence of head coach Mike Zimmer. "He didn't kick very good in pregame," Zimmer told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I don't know, he hit 28 out of 28 in practice last week, so he's got to carry it to the game ... it's worrisome."

Competitive Edge Analysis

Walsh signed a four-year, $14 million contract before the start of training camp, so the Vikings will have a hard decision whether to find a new kicker if he continues to struggle. Zimmer before had shown confidence in Walsh in the preseason, so he could be on thin ice.

Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh signed a four-year, $14 million contract extension on Sunday, according to ESPN.com. Walsh has converted 84.5 percent of his field goals in his first three seasons in the league and was voted First-Team All-Pro in 2012. Despite a dip in field-goal percentage to 74.3 last season, Walsh hit five attempts from over 50 yards and was effective on kickoffs with 48 touchbacks. "Blair has been a vital part of our special-teams success since we drafted him and we felt it was very important to secure his future with our organization," general manager Rick Spielman said. "His consistency on kickoffs and on long range field goals can help change the game for our team and we're excited for his future here in Minnesota." The 25-year-old is now under contract until 2019 and will be among the top-five highest-paid kickers in the NFL.

Walsh missed three field goals in Sunday's loss to Detroit. He missed from 53 and 68 yards and also had a 26-yard attempt blocked. He did make both extra point attempts.

Walsh was 12-of-15 in his career from 50 yards or more in his first two seasons, but is just 5-of-9 this season. It's hard to fault him with missing a 68-yard field goal and the blocked attempt wasn't his miscue, so we wouldn't be overly worried. However, he's now made one of his last six field goal attempts.
