Powell was barely involved in the offense during Thursday's 37-31 victory over the Bills, tallying only one carry for two yards and securing one of two targets for a yard.

EDGE Analysis

Matt Forte received a career-high 30 carries, leaving Powell a mere spectactor for the majority of the night. He did see a more appreciable level of involvement in the Week 1 loss to the Bengals when he tallied four carries and two receptions, so Thursday's meager opportunity may have simply been a case of the Jets opting to stick to a power running game with Forte. Powell did see a solid amount of work in offensive coordinator Chan Gailey's first season in New York in 2015, notching a career-best 47 receptions to go along with 70 rushing attempts. Therefore, his involvement figures to adjust into a more predictable pattern as the season unfolds

Powell had four carries for 41 rushing yards and caught two passes on four targets for seven receiving yards during Sunday's 23-22 loss to the Bengals.

EDGE Analysis

After a strong finish to last season, many expected Powell to take on a bigger role in the Jets' backfield this season, especially with Matt Forte battling a hamstring injury for much of the preseason. However, Forte dominated the touches, rushing 22 times for 96 yards while also catching five of seven targets for 59 receiving yards. Powell's role will likely increase as the season moves on, but it's clear that Forte will get a vast majority of the touches. Up next is a tough Week 2 game at Buffalo.

Powell rushed four times for 18 yards and caught three passes for 16 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Giants.

EDGE Analysis

Powell featured with both the first and second-team offenses, even though starter Matt Forte (hamstring) totaled 12 touches during his time on the field. Still, with seven touches of his own in only one half of play, Powell was rather involved himself. While top wideout Brandon Marshall (hip) being sidelined may have boosted Powell's usage, he still figures to complement the Jets' offense from his backup position this term.

Powell had four carries for 13 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason opener against the Jaguars.

EDGE Analysis

Powell got the start in place of Matt Forte (hamstring), who has missed all but two training camp practices. Powell's three-year, $11.25 million contract suggests the Jets have some kind of role in mind, but Forte should be busy once the games count.

Powell is re-signing with the Jets, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Jets replaced Chris Ivory with Matt Forte, who should present Powell with more competition for targets. However, the Jets weren't the only team with interest in in Powell, and their decision to bring him back suggests they have a significant role in mind.

Powell ended the season with 701 yards from scrimmage along with three touchdowns.

EDGE Analysis

He started out the season as a change-of-pace option for Chris Ivory, but near the end of the season, Powell was the Jets most effective running back before missing Week 17 with an ankle injury. He'll be a free agent this offseason, and although he was productive for a stretch this season, he missed five games due to injury. Due to his lack of a proven track record along with durability questions, he's likely going to sign a contract as a receiving back in a committee. His fantasy value will be directly related to where he lands in 2016.

Powell (ankle) is inactive Sunday against the Bills.

EDGE Analysis

Powell has been a big producer in recent weeks, as he's taken on a significant load in the passing game, something he didn't do for much of his career. However, he was unable to practice this week, and his absence will open up more touches for Chris Ivory and Stevan Ridley.

Powell (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills after missing practice for a third straight day on Friday, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

EDGE Analysis

Per the report, "it doesn't look good" for Powell, with Cimini noting that if the running back plays Sunday, he'd be the first Jet to do so this season after not practicing all week. On the plus side, fellow RB Chris Ivory is probable for the team's regular season finale.

Powell (ankle) missed practice again on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

More on Powell's Week 17 status Friday, but back-to-back missed practices have clouded the running back's availability for Sunday's regular season finale against the Bills.

Powell (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, NJ.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Chris Ivory (knee) also sat out Wednesday's practice, but at this stage Powell's Week 17 status looks less certain, with coach Todd Bowles noting Wednesday that Powell's ankle is "pretty sore now." More on the duo's status no later than Thursday's practice, as the Jets continue their preparation for Sunday's game against the Bills.
