Grubbs was released by the Chiefs on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of The Times-Picayune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grubbs only played with the Chiefs for one season after he was traded by the Saints last offseason. The 32-year-old started seven games for the Chiefs last season before missing the remainder of the season with a neck injury. He'll now hit the free agency market in hopes of finding his way onto a team in need of offensive line depth.

The Chiefs have acquired Grubbs from the Saints in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, ESPN.com reports. Obtaining Grubbs will help to further bolster the middle of the Chiefs' offensive line, which was boosted Wednesday by the reported addition of Paul Fanaika. Per the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the move frees up $3.6 million in salary cap space for the Saints.

Saints LG Ben Grubbs has restructured his contract, slashing his base salary from $5.2 million to $1.2 million. Like teammate Marques Colston, Grubbs' missing $4 million should be turned into a signing bonus that's pro-rated over the final four years of his deal. That would save the Saints $3 million in cap space this season.

Saints signed OG Ben Grubbs, formerly of the Ravens, to a five-year, $36 million deal. The deal includes a $10 million signing bonus, and $16 million "fully guaranteed." Grubbs provides the Saints a soft landing after they lost LG Carl Nicks to the Bucs, but at a surprisingly steep cost. Grubbs landed just $11.5 million less total money, and will average roughly $2 million less per season. Grubbs graded out as Pro Football Focus' sixth-best left guard in 2011, but Nicks was significantly better in both run and pass blocking. Nicks is also more than a year younger. The Ravens will likely now focus on signing free agent Evan Mathis to replace Grubbs.

According to the Washington Times, free agent OG Ben Grubbs is "in play" for the Redskins. Whether the Skins have enough cap space to enter a bidding war for Grubbs is in question after the signings of Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan. The Saints were reportedly pushing hard to sign Grubbs after losing Carl Nicks.

Free agent LG Ben Grubbs is expected to surpass Ravens RG Marshal Yanda's five-year, $32 million contract on the open market. "Barring a last-minute deal that's not expected to transpire," Grubbs is expected to leave Baltimore for a mega contract. In addition to the previously mentioned Bears and Cowboys, the Carroll County Times lists the Browns and Bucs as likely suitors.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens have made "what both sides acknowledged" was a substantial offer to impending free agent LG Ben Grubbs. According to the Sun, "all indications" are that there is not "much leeway" to expand on the offer. If Grubbs turns it down, he's almost certainly headed to the open market. Unless he finds his market unexpectedly depressed by the presence of fellow free agent LG Carl Nicks, Grubbs will likely be moving on from Baltimore.

The Carroll County Times mentions the Bears and Cowboys as potential suitors for free agent LG Ben Grubbs. Both clubs have interior offensive line needs, particularly Dallas. Chicago would likely demote former first-round pick Chris Williams out of the starting lineup should it land someone like Grubbs. Grubbs, 28, has started all but 10 games in his five-year career. He was Pro Football Focus' No. 12 guard in 2011.

Although the Ravens' talks involving free agent LG Ben Grubbs have been "very positive," his player rep suggests the two sides are not close to a deal. "Ben is extremely highly regarded in this league. He's in the prime of his career and may or may not have another opportunity to sign another significant contract," the agent said. "He needs to be sure that he explores all his options." Grubbs may be headed for the open market after all, at which point the Ravens will likely get outbid.
