Davis announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, ESPN reports.

Davis' retirement statement details his desire for time off from football for his brain and body to heal. As already one of the NFL's premier offensive tackles at just 25 years old, Davis' retirement is certainly surprising, but it appears health concerns played a prominent role in his decision. In retiring, Davis joins Patrick Willis, Justin Smith and Chris Borland as key 49ers that have all decided to hang up their cleats this offseason.

Davis (knee) has a sprained MCL and is unsure if he will play against the Rams, The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows reports.

His shoulder, then his hamstring, and now his knee, Davis has played in only one game this season due to a series of medical issues. In the second season of a five-year extension, the 49ers will likely be careful when it comes to an MCL injury. Jonathan Martin will be the replacement at right tackle if Davis is indeed out.

Davis (knee) did not practice Wednesday, but his knee injury doesn't seem to be as serious as originally thought, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Davis had his leg rolled on Sunday against the Eagles, and it looked like he may have sustained a serious knee injury. However, he was seen walking around the 49ers' facility comfortably without his knee wrapped Wednesday, indicating that the injury isn't of the serious variety. His participation in practice the remainder of the week will give a better indication of his availability this Sunday against the Chiefs.

Davis left Sunday's game against Philadelphia with an apparent knee injury and did not return.

Davis had just returned from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the first three games of the season, and he was forced to exit after having his leg rolled on by a teammate. The veteran tackle was able to walk off the field under his own power, but his status for week 5 is unclear.

Davis (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game against Philadelphia.

Davis was a limited practice participant all week, so it seems like he has a decent chance of making his 2014 debut Sunday. His eventual return will be a nice boost to the right side of San Francisco's offensive line.

Davis (hamstring) was a limited participant at practice Thursday, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Davis has missed the 49ers' first three games with a nagging hamstring injury. His participation in practice, albeit limited, is an indication that he may return to the field Sunday against Philadelphia. If Davis were able to suit up, it would provide a major boost to the run game and improve the pass protection as well.
