Dobson caught two of his three targets for 49 yards in Friday's preseason win over the Panthers.

EDGE Analysis

With Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell viewed as roster locks, Dobson is looking to stick with the Patriots as a depth wideout. Competing with the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder for slotting on that front are Keshawn Martin, Chris Harper, DeAndre Carter and Devin Lucien, following the release of Nate Washington. While limited to eight games in 2015, Dobson recorded 13 catches for 141 yards.

Dobson caught one of his two targets for 10 yards in Thursday's preseason win over the Bears.

EDGE Analysis

Dobson probably didn't help his cause with a drop in the contest, with the Patriots' 2013 second-rounder still battling for a depth wideout slot with Keshawn Martin, Nate Washington, Chris Harper, DeAndre Carter and Devin Lucien.

Coach Bill Belichick noted Monday that Dobson "had a good spring and a good few days here at training camp," CSN New England reports.

EDGE Analysis

As Belichick added, "we've seen that from him before," but to date, overall Dobson has been hindered by the fact that he hasn't been able to stay on the field consistently. Now in his forth season with the Patriots, it's make-or-break time for the 2013 second-rounder. With Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan and third-round pick Malcolm Mitchel considered roster locks as long as they are healthy, Dobson could well be in in competition with Keshawn Martin, Nate Washington, Chris Harper, DeAndre Carter and Devin Lucien for one wideout roster spot.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald suggests that Dobson "was the most productive receiver on the field" during the Patriots' recent minicamp.

EDGE Analysis

Of course, that assessment must be absorbed with the knowledge that key wideouts Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola have not been able to practice, but it's nonetheless encouraging to hear that a healthy Dobson has made a good impression to date in advance of training camp. With newcomer Chris Hogan and draftee Malcolm Mitchell presumably locked into roles with the Patriots in 2016, Dobson will need to contend with the likes of Keshawn Martin, Nate Washington, Chris Harper, Devin Lucien and DeAndre Carter for slotting on the team's crowded wideout depth chart.

ESPN's Mike Reiss indicates that Dobson figures to be "in a fight for a roster spot" with the Patriots in advance of the 2016 season.

EDGE Analysis

The Patriots added wideouts Chris Hogan and Nate Washington via free agency, so Dobson faces some added competition for a role in the team's offense after enduring another injury-marred campaign in 2015, in which he was limited to eight games. If Dobson -- who caught 13 passes for 141 yards in that span -- can re-stablish his health this summer, however, keeping him around wouldn't be especially costly for the Patriots, since he's in the final year of his rookie contract, which carries a salary cap hit of $1,090,845.

The Patriots have placed Dobson (ankle) on IR, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.

EDGE Analysis

With Dobson headed to IR, Julian Edelman out indefinitely, plus Danny Amendola and Keshawn Martin also banged up, we'd expect the Patriots to make a move to add some wideout depth in the coming days.

Dobson is dealing with a high ankle sprain, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

We'd expect the Patriots to rule the wideout out for Sunday night's game against the Broncos later this week, and beyond that it's plausible he will miss additional time. With Julian Edelman out, plus Danny Amendola and Keshawn Martin also hobbled, the Patriots' depth at wideout is currently taxed.

Dobson (ankle) is expected to miss at least Sunday's game at Denver, CSN New England reports.

EDGE Analysis

Dobson was removed from Monday's win against the Bills due to an ankle concern and didn't return, placing a cloud over his upcoming availability. Fortunately, he avoided any broken bones when X-rays were returned negative, but the extent of his absence will now ride on any ligament damage in the foot. With Danny Amendola (knee) and Keshawn Martin (hamstring) questionable to suit up in Week 12, the Patriots could be down to Brandon LaFell, Chris Harper, and Matthew Slater at wide receiver, barring any additions to the 53-man roster.

X-rays on Dobson's ankle came back clean, but the Patriots are still waiting for the results of an MRI, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

Dobson avoided the worst-case scenario of a broken ankle, though it's still quite possible he's dealing with a significant injury. His health is more important than ever for the Patriots, with Danny Amendola (ankle) and Keshawn Martin (hamstring) also banged up, and Julian Edelman (foot) expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

Dobson (ankle) is out for the rest of Monday's game against the Bills.

EDGE Analysis

Dobson injured his ankle in the second quarter of Monday's contest, and will not be able to return. The Patriots will be shorthanded at the wide receiver the rest of the way with both Dobson and Danny Amendola (knee) out of the game.
