Newton completed 23-of-37 passes for 292 yards, with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Falcons. Newton played poorly through three quarters, leading Carolina to just three points, but turned things around late, tossing both of his touchdowns in the fourth period. He had the ball with no timeouts in the closing seconds, and completed a couple of passes to set up the potential game-winning field goal, but the long kick was blocked. He looked gimpy again at several points Sunday, so next week's bye comes at a good time for him and the Panthers.
