Corner Lockdown - Week 15 fantasysharks.com Sep 23 '78
Around the League
New York Giants rookie David Wilson opened a lot of eyes in Week 14 as he scored three touchdowns and ran for 100 yards. He had more than 300 all-purpose yards, including a 97-yard kickoff return for a score. He received a season-high 13 carries and made the most of them. Starter Ahmad Bradshaw has a sore knee, so he could be limited on Sunday. If this is the case, Wilson could be in line to see even more work against Atlanta. He doesn't bring much to the table in the passing game, but the Falcons defense is not very good against the run. Grab Wilson in hopes that Bradshaw can't play.
It's very rare to talk solely about a defense in this column, but what Seattle did last week warrants this talk. The Seahawks defense scored 41 points in standard fantasy leagues, which has to be the highest total this game has ever seen. They shutout Arizona, 58-0, while posting eight turnovers, three sacks and two defensive touchdowns. We will probably never see another performance quite like it, and look for the Seahawks to be strong again this week against a struggling Buffalo team.
Is there a hotter player in the league right now than Cam Newton? He had a rough start to 2012, but has been coming on strong over the last three weeks. Newton is averaging close to 34 fantasy points per week and has been unstoppable on the ground. During this span he has thrown seven touchdown passes, ran for three more scores and has no turnovers. Talk about carrying owners come fantasy playoff time. Hopefully you aren't squaring up against him this week as he should go off once again against the San Diego Chargers.
Bilal Powell, RB, New York Jets
Powell has worked himself into a near time share with starter Shonn Greene. He received 19 carries while Greene got 20. Powell was able to put up 78 yards and a touchdown with his opportunity and will look to build on this against Tennessee on Monday night. He could be a nice flex start in Week 15 as 80 yards and a score are not out of the question for a team that relies heavily on the run game.
Detroit Lions D/ST
I'm staying with the defense talk and recommending the Lions defense this week. They are next in line to face Arizona, so why not take a chance with them and see if they can try to duplicate what Seattle did in Week 14? The Cardinals have absolutely zero confidence right now and their quarterback play is the worst in the NFL. Spot start Detroit as they should be able to get a handful of sacks with that solid defensive line, and maybe they will even reward you with a touchdown.
Kenny Britt, WR, Tennessee
Britt is finally starting to show signs of a No. 1 receiver after tearing his ACL early last season. In Week 14, he had eight receptions for 143 yards. Although he didn't find the end zone, he had scored in the previous two games. The targets have increased over the last month, and Britt is coming on strong to end the year. Take a chance on him this week if you need some receiver help, but keep in mind he has a tough matchup against the New York Jets secondary.
Lock of the Week
Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay
After posting more than 20 fantasy points in four of six games in the middle of the season, Freeman has cooled off a bit the last three weeks. In these three games he has thrown just four touchdown passes and is averaging about 13 fantasy points per game. Look for Freeman to have a big game this week as Tampa Bay draws the New Orleans Saints. Everyone has been having great games against New Orleans' horrible pass defense, and Freeman should be no different. Get him in your lineups for your playoff run as he should be a Top 5 fantasy quarterback this weekend.
