Damian Lillard PG POR 23 Days

Lillard didn't make the cut for Team USA's 12-man roster for the upcoming FIBA World Cup, but he'll be called upon in case someone opts out at the last minute, CSN Northwest reports.

Because Derrick Rose has been limited in warmup games due to general soreness, Lillard is waiting in the wings to provide support at the point. A decision must be made by 6:30 AM ET on Friday, which marks the tournament's tip-off in Spain. If his services are required, he would likely direct the offense behind Kyrie Irving.

Damian Lillard said Matt Barnes told him his defense will be the key to making the Team USA roster.

"He just called and told me that everybody knows that I can shoot the ball and make plays, but he said he knows that I can defend too," Lillard said. "He said just go out there and be a dog and pick up full-court." Lillard's offensive skill set has grown as his career has moved along, but he has still been torched on defense, giving up numerous season highs to opposing point guards last year. If Derrick Rose is healthy, Lillard may have a tough time making the team.

Gary Payton said that Damian Lillard needs to work on his defense.

"He can be like Patrick Beverley if he wants to, but that's a mindset," Payton said. Lillard worked with Gary Payton last season and it sounds like he may again this summer. He allowed an extremely high 45.9 percent against isolation plays, which ranks 199th in the NBA (Synergy).

LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard were both named to the All-NBA Third Team on Wednesday, alongside Goran Dragic, Paul George and Al Jefferson.

It's fitting that Aldridge and Lillard wound up on the same squad after fighting their way past Houston in an electric first-round playoff matchup. The Blazers joined the Rockets and Clippers as the only teams with multiple All-NBA players for 2013-14, and the future is very bright in Rip City.

Damian Lillard said he is committed to USA Basketball and will be focusing on his conditioning this summer during his exit interview on Friday.

He admitted he was tired and winded during the playoffs, which comes as a bit of a surprise after Lillard led the NBA in minutes played during his rookie season. He played a whopping 44.7 minutes per game in the series vs. Houston, and still ranked seventh in total minutes during the 2013-14 season. He still has room to grow and will be highly coveted in fantasy drafts next season.

Damian Lillard scored 25 points on 11-of-21 shooting (including two threes) with four rebounds and five assists in the Blazers' 103-92 Game 4 win over the Spurs on Monday.

Lillard is going to have to be the man for the Blazers with LaMarcus Aldridge (19 points, 8-of-16 FGs, four rebounds) facing tough matchups against Tiago Splitter, Tim Duncan and even little-used Aron Baynes. Nicolas Batum put up one of the better stat lines of these playoffs with 14 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, one steal and one block, and Will Barton set a career playoff-high with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists. The Blazers avoid the sweep and head to San Antonio for Wednesday's Game 5.

Damian Lillard hit a game-winning 3-point with 0.9 seconds left on the clock to eliminate the Rockets in the Blazers' 99-98 Game 6 win on Friday.

This year's opening round of the playoffs may never be topped and that's not hyperbole. Lillard busted free on a poorly defensed play by the Rockets and you'd be hard-pressed to find anybody that was truly surprised. He finished with 25 points, six threes and a massive line, and LaMarcus Aldridge (30 points, 10-of-26 FGs, 13 boards) was left in single coverage for most of the night. The Blazers await the winner of Sunday's Game 7 tilt between the Spurs and the Mavs. Now go try and get some sleep before this weekend's five Game 7s.

Damian Lillard put on a blow-by clinic during a tough loss to the Rockets on Friday, shooting 9-of-16 from the field for 30 points with six boards, six assists, one steal and four 3-pointers.

It's the first time he's ever scored 30 points on 16 or less shots in his career and he made James Harden look awful on defense all night. Lillard gets more credit for his shoot, but tonight showed how he has some great handles. The Blazers are still up 2-1 and can take a commanding lead on Sunday at home.

Damian Lillard hit just 3-of-14 shots but still ended up with 18 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists in Wednesday's thrilling Game 2 112-105 win over the Rockets.

Nicolas Batum was 3-of-11 for six points and Wesley Matthews was 4-of-11 for nine points, but LaMarcus Aldridge (43 points, 8 rebounds) was able to carry the team. Despite the poor shooting, it can be argued that Lillard played well, and was dogged by Patrick Beverley for most of the night (14 points, 41 minutes). The Blazers are heading to Portland with a surprising 2-0 lead and will be looking for more of the same from Aldridge in Game 3, along with better shooting from Lillard, Batum and Matthews.

Damian Lillard bruised his thigh during Sunday's game and he felt a "little sore" on Monday, but it won't affect his status for Game 2.

"I just got kneed in my thigh," he said. "I wear pads on my thigh and on my knee and the spot that my pad wasn't covered was where I got kneed." Lillard practiced fully and he'll be ready to go on Thursday, when he'll try to recreate his brilliant playoff debut of 31 points and nine rebounds.
