Isaiah Thomas PG PHO 3 Months

Restricted FA Isaiah Thomas said that he'd prefer to join the Lakers, Mavericks or Suns, but he's also been contacted by the Heat and Pistons.

"I don't know if [the Kings] really want me like other teams do," said Thomas. "I know that [my] being 5'9" scares a lot of people, because that's not the prototypical starting point guard in the NBA ... I'm going to show teams and show people that I am a legitimate starting point guard." He posted top-25 fantasy value in big minutes as a starter last season, ranking as the seventh most valuable point guard on a cumulative basis.

Restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas is visiting with the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

It seems like a foregone conclusion that Thomas will not be back with the Kings next year, despite having the best season of his young career. The Suns are looking to add depth to their already talented back court, and perhaps a little insurance in case 2014-2015 restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe becomes hard to retain.

Isaiah Thomas has likely spent his last days in a Kings uniform, and the Lakers have emerged as a "real possibility," according to sources.

The Kings will be willing to keep Isaiah at the right price, but they don't seem to be willing to spend much money on the undersized guard. LA has enough cap room to offer Thomas a decent amount of money, but that won't happen until Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James are off the board. Detroit is also in the mix, and they would reportedly be open to a sign-and-trade, while the Heat are also in the running. For some reason management in Sacramento doesn't view Thomas as a worthwhile asset to the franchise.

Restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas' preferred teams are the Lakers, Heat and Pistons, according to Vincent Goodwill of the Detroit News.

He grew up a Lakers' fan and they are considered as his favorite. The Kings don't seem like they're going bring Thomas back after coming to terms with Darren Collison today, so other teams have an excellent chance to pounce. For whatever reason, the Sacramento front office was never really all the way behind IT2.

The Detroit Pistons have reportedly offered restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas a 3-year contract worth $24 million.

Thomas is a restricted free agent, so the Kings will have a chance to match the Pistons' offer, but there have also been rumblings that Sacramento views Thomas as more of a sixth man so it's possible they deem this offer too rich for their liking. It will be interesting to see if Detroit can unload Brandon Jennings if they are able to land Thomas, IT2 would become an interesting fantasy option if he ends up starting alongside Josh Smith, Andre Drummond, and potentially Greg Monroe.

The Pistons, Mavs, Heat, Lakers and Suns have interest in restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas.

The Pistons have the most interest so far and numbers have started in the three-year, $24 million range. For contending teams the per-year numbers have started around $6-7 million per year. The Kings have yet to fully play their hand on how they intend to handle Thomas in free agency, so we have a while to see how this plays out.

The Kings will make Isaiah Thomas a qualifying offer worth $1.1 million to make him a restricted free agent, according to general manager Pete D'Alessandro.

The qualifying offer will allow the Kings to match any offer that Thomas receives in free agency and give them team some flexibility to keep Thomas in the fold with Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins as long as Thomas doesn't receive an offer they're unwilling to match. "We loved what our three guys did last [season]," D'Alessandro said. "We feel very strongly about Isaiah. What I can say is obviously we'll give him his qualifying offer and we'll have very good discussions with his agent at the appropriate time, but we feel good about the three of those guys." The Kings have also been rumored to be interested in drafting Marcus Smart, so there is a chance that Thomas becomes a trade chip over the next few weeks.

Kings' GM Pete D'Alessandro said he plans to speak with Isaiah Thomas' agent on Monday, and there is "no question" the team will make a qualifying offer.

This move is more of a formality than anything, as it's the first step to making a player a restricted free agent. Isaiah had quite the breakout season last year, averaging 20.3 points, 6.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.8 three-pointers, on 45.3 percent shooting from the field, all career-highs. Thomas will certainly fetch some offers on the open market, and it will be up to the Kings to decide whether or not to match those offers. But with the Kings' currently having $66 million on the books for next season, it's possible they let their promising young guard walk, and turn there eyes towards Ray McCallum.

The Kings' front office is reportedly split on whether or not to move forward with Isiah Thomas as their point guard.

This decision seems to be more about money than basketball skill as the Kings are a bit strapped from a financial standpoint. The Kings currently have over $47 million in guaranteed contracts, and if Rudy Gay decides to opt in to the final year of his contract worth $19.1 million, that will bring the Kings to over $66 million. With the salary cap set to be somewhere around $63-$65 million, if Thomas signs a deal for around $8 million annually, the Kings will be a team in the luxury tax and not necessarily a playoff contender. That's a lot of money to be spending to not make the playoffs, and it's possible the Kings choose to sign-and-trade Thomas and go with Ray McCallum as their starting point guard.

Isaiah Thomas said he thinks coach Mike Malone is in his corner to keep him with the Kings next season.

He added Malone has been talking to him "almost every day" to talk about games and the draft. Thomas is a restricted free agent and it sounds like the Kings will bring him back. Although, Ray McCallum did play well down the stretch and the Kings do own the eighth pick, so they have a couple backup options.
