Former Timberwolves GM David Kahn believes Nikola Pekovic is "probably aiming for a double-digit salary" as a restricted free agent during the offseason.

It's what we expected to hear, but Pekovic's free agency has the potential to turn into a monster headache for the team. The Wolves aren't good enough as currently constructed, but they can't really afford to lose Pekovic without a suitable replacement. A desperate team will throw Pekovic a multi-year offer at something like $10-12 million per season, a figure that may be difficult for Minnesota to match when looking at all of the holes on the roster. It's rare a team lets a restricted free agent leave, especially someone as critical as Pekovic is to Minnesota.

He tried to warm up and it would seem he's not going to be able to manage the pain. Pek had a great season, averaging 16.3 points, 8.8 boards and 0.8 blocks on 52 percent shooting, but his 20 missed games will make him a risky pick next year. Greg Stiemsma and Dante Cunninghmam figure to split the center duties tonight.

Earlier today Rick Adelman said he's unsure of Pekovic's status for the finale. He has been ruled out fairly early in the last two games, so he's likely a little closer to doubtful than probable. Fantasy owners would probably be best served avoiding this situation with 15 games and plenty of options to choose from.
