Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle conceded that Al-Farouq Aminu needs to work on his shooting, but Carlisle intends to "put him in position to play to his strengths now."

"He's still a young player. I feel like he's got big upside and skill," Carlisle said. Aminu shot a combined 45-of-148 (30.4 percent) from beyond 16 feet last season, but his length, athleticism and rebounding make him a solid addition to the Mavs' bench. He led all small forwards in rebounding percentage for each of the past two seasons and should earn enough minutes at SF and PF to be worth monitoring in deep fantasy leagues.

The Mavericks have reached an agreement with Al-Farouq Aminu worth $2.1 million over two years, according to CSNNW.com.

They expressed interest in Aminu back on July 1 and they were finally able to get their man. The Mavs desperately need some size on the wings with their very small backcourt, so Aminu fits the bill at 6'9". This is also a big win for them after the debacle with Rashard Lewis' knee. Aminu will likely play both forward spots off the bench, but he's not going to get enough shots to matter in most fantasy leagues.

Al-Farouq Aminu will enter unrestricted free agency this summer with nebulous value after failing to improve during the 2013-14 season.

Pelicans coach Monty Williams tried various tactics to spark Aminu's game, but ultimately yanked him from the starting lineup in favor of Tyreke Evans and Darius Miller. "[Aminu] has to understand he has to play at a high level every single time he is on the floor," Williams said during the season. ''His focus and mentality has to be focused on [rebounding and defense] as opposed to scoring and things ... that look sexy." Aminu finished with averages of 7.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in 26 minutes per game, and he'll need to find a perfect situation to be worth drafting in most 12-team fantasy leagues next year.
