Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle conceded that Al-Farouq Aminu needs to work on his shooting, but Carlisle intends to "put him in position to play to his strengths now."

"He's still a young player. I feel like he's got big upside and skill," Carlisle said. Aminu shot a combined 45-of-148 (30.4 percent) from beyond 16 feet last season, but his length, athleticism and rebounding make him a solid addition to the Mavs' bench. He led all small forwards in rebounding percentage for each of the past two seasons and should earn enough minutes at SF and PF to be worth monitoring in deep fantasy leagues.

The Dallas Mavericks have officially signed Al-Farouq Aminu to a two-year contract.

Aminu's contract will come on a veteran's minimum and the former lottery pick will fill provide the Mavericks with some much-needed size on the wings. Aminu is still only 23 years old and had some deep-league fantasy value with his averages of 7.2 points, 6.2 boards, 1.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks with New Orleans last season, but will have a hard time finding enough minutes to be relevant in standard leagues this season.

The Mavericks have reached an agreement with Al-Farouq Aminu worth $2.1 million over two years, according to CSNNW.com.

They expressed interest in Aminu back on July 1 and they were finally able to get their man. The Mavs desperately need some size on the wings with their very small backcourt, so Aminu fits the bill at 6'9". This is also a big win for them after the debacle with Rashard Lewis' knee. Aminu will likely play both forward spots off the bench, but he's not going to get enough shots to matter in most fantasy leagues.

The Dallas Mavericks have expressed interest in Al-Farouq Aminu.

While the former lottery pick hasn't panned out as expected in the NBA, he's still 23 years old and has shown flashes during his four NBA seasons. ALF finished 2013-14 with averages of 7.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks in 25.6 minutes per game, so he'll need to take another step in his development if he's going to register on the fantasy radar next season.

Al-Farouq Aminu will enter unrestricted free agency this summer with nebulous value after failing to improve during the 2013-14 season.

Pelicans coach Monty Williams tried various tactics to spark Aminu's game, but ultimately yanked him from the starting lineup in favor of Tyreke Evans and Darius Miller. "[Aminu] has to understand he has to play at a high level every single time he is on the floor," Williams said during the season. ''His focus and mentality has to be focused on [rebounding and defense] as opposed to scoring and things ... that look sexy." Aminu finished with averages of 7.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in 26 minutes per game, and he'll need to find a perfect situation to be worth drafting in most 12-team fantasy leagues next year.

Al-Farouq Aminu will not start at power forward against the Thunder on Friday.

Coach Monty Williams did not reveal the exact lineup, but Jeff Withey playing well this week suggests he could be the guy to move into the first unit. Anthony Davis (back) is out for the season and the Pelicans frontcourt has been in shambles with the exception of Davis all season, so Withey is only a deep-league target for now.

Al-Farouq Aminu started in place of Anthony Davis (back) on Wednesday for five points, five boards, one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes.

He's had his fair share of nice games this year, but it's mostly be letdowns. Aminu doesn't really have an offensive skill set and will have consistency issues on the stat sheet for the rest of his career. Fantasy owners should be able to do better despite the added opportunity for Aminu.

Al-Farouq Aminu logged just 19 minutes on Monday against the Kings, scoring four points on 1-of-1 shooting with two rebounds and three steals.

This is why we weren't running to the wire to get him. Every now and again he shows flashes of being a serviceable NBA player, but his play has fallen off over last season and that's not saying much.

Al-Farouq Aminu scored eight points with 10 boards, one assist and three steals in 34 minutes vs. the Spurs on Saturday.

He's going to see some extended run at power forward because there really are no other options while Anthony Davis (ankle) is out. Aminu is really just a low-upside guy, so fantasy owners shouldn't be running to the wire to grab him.

Al-Farouq Aminu played 33 minutes and scored 13 points with eight rebounds and one assist in Friday's win over the Jazz.

Aminu had one of his better scoring games of the month and most of it came after Anthony Davis went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter. The 23-year-old doesn't have huge upside, but he is capable of providing solid across-the-board stats when he's producing. He's not a must-add in standard leagues at the moment, but Aminu is worth keeping an eye on just in case Anthony Davis misses anytime.
