Russell Westbrook (knee surgery) no longer needs crutches.

A great sign for Westbrook's recovery. He was expected to use crutches until about mid-June, so he shed them right on schedule. As things stand, there is no reason to believe Westbrook's availability will be compromised as he's on track to be ready well before the start of training camp.

Thunder GM Sam Presti said Russell Westbrook (knee surgery) is expected to make a full recovery and should be the same player he was before the injury.

Westbrook should get a firmer rehab timetable once he sheds his crutches within the next month. At that point, we'll have a better idea of when he can begin working out and eventually resume basketball activities. Westbrook should be completely healed and ready to go by the start of training camp.

Russell Westbrook (knee surgery) is expected to remain on crutches for "another four or five weeks" before receiving a "firmer timetable."

Those hoping for a miraculous Westbrook return should stop holding their breath. His lateral meniscus tear will keep him on the shelf for the remainder of the season, but he should have plenty of time to rehab and be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around.

Russell Westbrook had surgery on his torn right meniscus on Saturday and will miss the rest of the playoffs.

"Russell's health and well being are obviously our number one priority," GM Sam Presti said. The surgery is to repair the meniscus and not remove it, which results in a longer recovery. It's a smart move and the Thunder made it clear they're in it for the long haul when they traded away James Harden back in October 2012. Westbrook should be ready to go for the start of the 2013 season and Saturday's game will be the first DNP of his productive career. We'd still consider him to be a great pick in the first half of the first round of standard fantasy drafts. Reggie Jackson is having a small breakout this season and he'll be charged with handling the point guard duties. Kevin Durant is going to have to shoot the ball more and the Thunder still have a chance to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals.

Russell Westbrook will undergo surgery on his torn meniscus Saturday.

The surgery was expected to happen sometime this weekend after Westbrook suffered the injury Wednesday night. The question now is how much work the doctors will have to do on Westbrook's knee. Yahoo! Sports reported Friday that there's a chance the meniscus is only slightly torn, which would mean Westbrook could possibly return in two to three weeks. However, if it's more of a full tear doctors will have to stitch the meniscus back together and Westbrook would likely be done for the rest of this season. We should know the diagnosis at some point Saturday.

A source tells Yahoo Sports that "perhaps" only 2 percent of Russell Westbrook's meniscus is torn.

The Thunder will not have a timetable on Russell Westbrook until he undergoes knee surgery.

Westbrook had never missed a game in his five-year NBA career. Now he's listed as "out indefinitely" and going to miss at least some of the biggest games of his life. His lateral meniscus tear is slightly worse than a medial meniscus tear and recovery timetables range anywhere from 2-8 weeks. Doctors won't know just how bad Westbrook's tear is until they go into his knee. Talented second-year point guard Reggie Jackson is a good bet for 30-plus minutes for the foreseeable future, and 38-year-old fossil Derek Fisher will also have to step up.

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant each scored 29 points in Wednesday's Game 2 win over the Rockets.

Westbrook had to deal with little known Patrick Beverley all night, as Beverley had a big game got into Westbrook's head, pushing the Thunder to the brink in the 105-102 win. Westbrook hit just 10-of-26 shots and 1-of-7 3-pointers, while Durant hit 10-of-25 shots, two 3-pointers and committed just one turnover on the night. Durant had 15 in the first quarter, but went scoreless in the fourth quarter until the game's final two minutes, when Thabo Sefolosha hit a 3-pointer, and Serge Ibaka knocked down an 18-footer to help secure the win for OKC.

Russell Westbrook had 19 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists, two steals and a 3-pointer on 7-of-15 shooting as the Thunder crushed the Rockets 120-91 in Game 1 on Sunday.

Westbrook was great tonight, and looked like the fastest player in the league, while Kevin Durant came through with 24 points and a full stat line in the easy win. The Thunder should have no problem disposing of the Rockets in Round 1.
