Jason Maxiell is "hanging in there" after having surgery to repair a detached retina.

Maxiell will not play again this season and has "likely" played his final game with the Pistons. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason and Detroit is set to enter next season with a front line of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond.

The Pistons are 7-21 and have lost six straight games, and replacing Maxiell with Drummond (6 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 20 minutes) makes sense on every conceivable level. Riding Maxiell was fun when he was hot, but it appears the party is over.
