Dwight Howard (ankle) is not expected to play in Friday's game against the Thunder.

The Rockets have officially listed Howard as day-to-day, but he's expected to play it safe. Perhaps he'll be ready for Sunday's tasty matchup against the Nuggets. Backup Omer Asik is averaging 11.0 points, 12.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in his last six starts.

Dwight Howard recently had his left ankle drained and had a shot to control inflammation, and he will not play on Wednesday.

Dwight also denied ever saying that he'd miss 10 days, a timetable which would keep him out until at least Sunday's home game vs. the Nuggets. He's officially day-to-day and said he wasn't worried about the injury lingering into the playoffs, but the Rockets are bound to be cautious as he recovers from the recent removal of a cyst from his ankle. Omer Asik grabbed 23 rebounds on Tuesday and he remains a solid option while filling in at center.

Dwight Howard (ankle) isn't worried about his ankle injury.

"There was more fluid in there the next time I saw the doctor," Howard said. "It was best I get the fluid out and just rest. I'm not worried." Howard will miss Tuesday's game against the Nets, but tried to quell a report from Clippers' announcer Ralph Lawler that indicated Howard would miss 10 days. "I never talked to him," Howard said. "I wouldn't ever just tell someone that if the doctors and the trainers hadn't told me that." Howard's owners should prepare to be without their star center for at least Tuesday, while Omer Asik steps in as a solid add for owners in search of rebounds and blocks.

Dwight Howard (ankle) has been confirmed as out for Tuesday's game against the Nets.

Howard had already been believed to be out, but coach Kevin McHale confirmed the news on Tuesday. Howard had said he'll miss 10 days with his injury, so his owners face a very real possibility of being without him through the week. Omer Asik will step in as the starting center for the Rockets and will see plenty of playing time to provide owners with boards and blocks for as long as Howard is out.

Dwight Howard (ankle) will not play on Tuesday but he is traveling with the Rockets on their two-game trip.

Howard is listed as day-to-day but he said on Saturday that he expected to miss 10 days with his injury, so at the very least he should be considered doubtful for Wednesday's game in Toronto. His absence leaves Omer Asik as the uncontested starting center, but Asik is only averaging 7.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks as a starter this season.

Dwight Howard (ankle) told Clippers announcer Ralph Lawler that he will not play for the next 10 days.

We'd prefer to hear Dwight's timetable directly from the Rockets, who have simply listed him as day-to-day, but Lawler is as reliable a source as any and fantasy owners should prepare to be without Dwight until at least April 7. That gives him a maximum of six games left in the regular season and owners fighting for a playoff win may have no choice but to cut him loose. Omer Asik figures to get the bulk of his minutes as Houston's fill-in starting center, with Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas also stepping up in the frontcourt.

Dwight Howard (ankle) will not play vs. the Clippers on Saturday.

He was wearing slippers at shootaround and it sounds like his doctor visit on Friday resulted in a prescription for additional rest, which isn't shocking since he had surgery to remove a cyst a few weeks ago. Omer Asik will assume the starting center job, and his splits in 11 starts suggest that he'll be a borderline option vs. DeAndre Jordan and the Clippers -- 7.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.3 steals and 1.1 blocks in 25 minutes per game.

Dwight Howard visited a doctor on Friday about his ankle.

He also had a knee injury earlier this week, but that's a drop in the bucket on his status. Howard needed to have a cyst removed earlier this month and missed three games, but he might not be out of the woods yet. We'll let you know if the doctor brings bad news.

Dwight Howard (knee) said he feels fine after bumping knees with Terrence Jones during Wednesday's practice.

Howard missed most of Wednesday's practice session after bumping knees with his teammate, but it sounds like he should be ready to play against the Sixers Thursday night. Howard double-doubled in his first game back from an ankle injury on Monday and the only thing holding him back from a monster game against the Sixers on Thursday is a blowout or a last-minute decision by the Rockets to rest him. We'll consider Howard as probable for Thursday night for now, but Omer Asik would be in in line for a start if D12 sits.
