Dwight Howard C HOU 4 Days

Howard (knee) is expected to return to game action "sooner rather than later" according to coach Kevin McHale, but Howard will also only play about 20 minutes per game and not play in both games of back-to-back sets.

Howard's fantasy value continues to dry up like an unused sponge. There's a lot of surface volume there, but it's vacuous and dry inside, lacking the depth most would need from Howard to justify holding on to him in most fantasy leagues at this time. With the head-to-head playoffs in full effect, Howard's return may come as soon as Wednesday, but after this week, the Rockets have three back-to-back sets, from which Howard will miss one game, and it's unclear how long he'll have a minutes restriction. Managers in weekly leagues can stash him on the bench at their discretion, but managers in leagues with daily roster moves should be looking to dump Howard for someone that is going to be in action and playing a heaping helping of minutes from game to game.

Howard (knee) has been upgraded to doubtful for Monday's game, and has a realistic possibility of playing Wednesday Jonathan Feigen reports.

If you've been holding on to Howard hoping that he would return soon, this is the news you're looking for. However, even if he does return soon, there's no promise that he will play enough minutes to be useful for fantasy owners. Additionally, Howard will miss three more games since he will not play both games of back-to-backs. All of this will limit his value, so owners probably should only hold him if you can continue to wait for his return.

Howard (knee) is out for Saturday's game against Phoenix, Houston Chronicle writer Jenny Dial Creech reports.

Howard said recently that he's "really close" to making his return, yet there's no hint of a targeted return date at this point. Whether his return comes with much prior notice is anyone's guess, but it in any case won't happen Saturday.

Howard (knee) did not practice Friday, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Howard continues to be listed as "out" by the team without a target return date. However, he said earlier int he week that he's "really close" to returning, so he's a player to monitor on a game-to-game basis going forward.

Howard (knee) said Wednesday that he's "really close" to returning, Jenny Dial Creech of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Howard joked that "it's a secret" when he'll be back on the court, but it looks as though he should return within the next week or so. Continue to consider Howard questionable until Houston offers a more definitive date. Howard also noted that when he does return, he won't take part in one half of back-to-back sets. The Rockets have three back-to-backs remaining on the regular season schedule.

Dwight Howard C HOU 11 Days

Howard (knee) returned to practice for the first time Monday and is expected to remain out for another 10-to-14 days, ESPN reports.

Howard has missed the last 22 games with swelling in his knee, and all signs point to him missing another game Tuesday versus his former team, the Magic. The Rockets expect Howard to return prior to the end of the regular season, and their hope is that he'll be able to play about 10 games before the playoffs. "He didn't have a hard practice today," coach Kevin McHale said. "He was able to do some things. It was good to see him out there. Now he's just got to get comfortable."

Howard (knee) is still without an update in his timetable. Reports from last week would put him on track to rejoin the Rockets in one-to-two weeks.

Howard has been dealing with several ailments throughout the season, most recently his knee. He has already resumed on-court workouts, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him return before the regular season ends. However, it may be difficult to hold onto him at the moment, as the fantasy playoffs are taking place in the coming weeks. Owners may need to take a calculated approach in deciding whether or not he's worth the stash.

Howard (knee) remains without a specific return date, but is still on track to rejoin the Rockets in the next 1-to-3 weeks, the Houston Chronicle reports. Howard was quoted as saying that he is feeling more "explosive" than he has at any point this season.

Howard is five weeks removed from receiving a marrow injection in his knee that was expected to sideline him 6-8 weeks. He resumed on-court workouts last week and appears to be progressing well. Howard has not reported any pain stemming from his workouts and is on pace for a return this month.

Howard (knee) has commenced "mild" on-court workouts, but there remains no specific date for his return.

The development follows Howard's examination Wednesday, which deemed him "on schedule" in his recovery from the early February procedure to inject bone marrow in his right knee. He's more than four weeks into a 6-to-8 week recovery effort, meaning he could make his return by the end of the month, barring setbacks in workouts.

Dwight Howard C HOU 23 Days

Howard (knee) underwent an examination Wednesday with the Rockets' team physician, who confirmed that the center's recovery is "on schedule," the Houston Chronicle reports.

Wednesday's "checkup" marked four weeks since the procedure to inject bone marrow in Howard's right knee. An MRI performed late last week supports the findings of the evaluation, but ultimately, his progress in workouts will be the most important step as he strives to return to the court. If he follows the initial 6-to-8 week timetable, his first NBA action since Jan. 23 could be two weeks away.
