DeMar DeRozan SG/SF TOR 23 Hrs

DeRozan has improved his conditioning, and is working on being a better passer and attacking with his off hand, the Toronto Sun's Ryan Wolstat reports.

This is kind of a typical training camp report, where the reporter talks about what a player is working on and what kind of shape he's in. DeRozan said he could probably play a 40-minute game now, although he played 40-plus minutes on 24 occasions last season, so that's not really news. He also was proud of the fact that he was improving with using his left hand, but going to the left in practice is different than trusting it in games. However, a lot of the underlying comments from DeRozan, Kyle Lowry and Dwane Casey suggest that the franchise shooting guard may be ready to take another step forward this season, building upon his All-Star season from a year ago. Basically all of DeRozan's counting stats have improved over the past two seasons, including minutes, so it remains to be seen if he can be noticeably more valuable than he was last season when he averaged 38.2 minutes per game. Few players have as high of a floor in fantasy as DeRozan because of that high-end playing time, and, if he can be a better passer and a better attacker if he can go to the bucket with either hand, he could be an even better value on draft day.

DeRozan has been named to Team USA's roster for the upcoming World Cup.

The Raptors' guard follows up his first All-Star appearance with the honor of representing his country on the international stage, beating out the likes of Damian Lillard and Gordon Hayward for the roster spot. DeRozan is coming off a career year, but given his age and fierce work ethic there's no reason to think his development has plateaued just yet.

DeMar DeRozan, who is vying for a spot on Team USA, recently spent a week working on his post moves with Hakeem Olajuwon.

DeRozan was reasonably effective in post-ups last year, averaging 0.88 points per possession, but he also struggled with turnovers in the post. He's coming off an All-Star season in which he averaged 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He's already a top-50 fantasy option, and could surge into the early rounds if he raises his FG percentage (42.9 percent last season) and hits 3-pointers with greater consistency (30.5 percent).

DeMar DeRozan has been added to the Team USA camp roster.

The camp starts on Monday in Las Vegas. DeRozan had a breakout season for the Raptors and he thrived at putting the ball on the floor. He's not really an ideal fit around the sure things on the team since he's not an elite shooter. The Raptors will enter next season with the same group of players and should compete for a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference.

The NBA has warned players not to participate in exhibitions in the Philippines this summer, which were expected to include DeMar DeRozan, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard and Kyle Lowry.

Some players are expected to earn at least $150,000 during the two-day event, and their agents feel the league is trying to control the financial market for overseas events. A league official denied that to Yahoo! Sports, saying, "Our biggest concerns aren't sponsorships and payouts, but the playing conditions around the games - quality of the floor, equipment around the court, presence of doctors and facilities for treatment, etc." The players may be subject to fines if they do participate in the events.

DeMar DeRozan was battling the flu during Sunday's Game 7 defeat in Toronto, during which he scored 18 points with six assists in 45 minutes.

DeRozan shot 38.1 percent from the field in the playoffs but also made 10.7 free throws per game, and stellar free throw shooting fueled his top-50 value in eight-cat fantasy leagues this season. Former Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo was widely scorned for signing DeRozan to a four-year, $38 million contract in 2012, but he now seems prescient.

DeMar DeRozan had 23 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals, a block and a 3-pointer in Wednesday's exciting Game-5 win over the Nets.

Jonas Valanciunas added 16 points and six rebounds, and learned a valuable lesson about when not to goal tend, as he was lucky not to cost his team the game late after altering Deron Williams' half-court shot, which looked like it might be going in. Greivis Vasquez was also nice off the bench with 15 points, six rebounds and two assists. Game 6 is Friday in Brooklyn and the Raptors lead 3-2.

DeMar DeRozan caught fire with 20 points in the first half of Sunday's victory, finishing with a team-high 24 points on 7-of-19 shooting to help Toronto even their first round series at 2-2.

The Raptors' leading scorer is pitching in 24.5 points per game in the series but he's made only 35.9 percent of his field goals, making up the difference with 10.5 made free throws per game. Toronto reclaimed home court advantage with the victory, but to close out the series they'll need their lone All-Star to keep up his torrid scoring pace in Games 5, 6 and possibly 7.

Raptors coach Dwane Casey acknowledged that his team needs to "do a better job" of quickly double-teaming Deron Williams and Joe Johnson in the post.

The Nets have taken a 2-1 series lead behind excellent play from their starting backcourt -- Johnson is averaging 23.7 points on 60.5 percent shooting, while Williams is contributing 20.3 points and 5.3 assists per game. DeMar DeRozan admitted that "It's tough once [Johnson] gets you down there [in the post] and get his hip on you," and it will be interesting to see how the Raptors respond in a critical Game 4 matchup on Sunday.

DeMar DeRozan scored a game-high 30 points during Game 3's 102-98 loss to the Nets on Friday, adding five boards, five assists, two steals and one 3-pointer.

He's truly playing like an All-Star and almost got the Raptors back into this game. They outscored the Nets 32-25 in the fourth quarter and almost pulled an incredible comeback. He made 13 of 15 from the line and that's a big reason for his leap this season. DeRozan became the first Raptor to ever score at least 30 points in consecutive playoff games.
