Free-agent guard Toney Douglas is expected to sign a non-guaranteed contract with the Indiana Pacers on Friday, according to USA Today. Douglas will have a difficult time making the regular season roster after playing just 12 games last season with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The New Orleans Pelicans waived guard Toney Douglas on Friday, according to Basketball Insiders. Douglas averaged 5.4 points and 2.0 assists per game in 12 appearances last season while helping to fill in for Jrue Holiday, who was sidelined by a leg injury.

Douglas, who signed a pair of 10-day contracts and ultimately re-signed for the remainder of the season with the Pelicans, appeared in 12 games and posted averages of 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 15 minutes per game.

Douglas played in the Chinese Basketball Association through January and was then called upon by New Orleans when it was clear starting point guard Jrue Holiday was going to be out for an extended amount of time with a leg injury. Douglas wasn't brought in to be a significant contributor in Holiday's absence, as it was more for just insurance purposes, but when he did see the floor, he was formidable enough where he was not any sort of liability to have out there. Douglas will be a free agent this season, and if it is anything like the previous offseasons for him, there is a strong chance Douglas is back to playing overseas.

Douglas has re-signed with the Pelicans.

Douglas played in the Chinese Basketball Association through January, and then signed a couple of 10-day contracts with the Pelicans. He doesn't figure to get many minutes over the final few weeks of the season, though he could perhaps see a bit of the court if the Pelicans are eventually eliminated from playoff contention.

Douglas was waived by the Pelicans on Thursday, reports. After inking a 10-day contract with New Orleans on Feb. 4, Douglas played the last three games before the break, averaging nine points (on 41 percent shooting), four assists, 2.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and one three-pointer in 22 minutes. He previously played in the Chinese Basketball Association this season, which, along with the recent audition, could give another NBA team enough evidence to give him a chance.

Douglas signed a 10-day deal with the Pelicans on Wednesday.

Douglas signed with a Chinese team in August but will return to the NBA after playing 35 CBA games, posting averages of 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists. A first-round pick in 2009, Douglas has spent time with the Knicks, Rockets, Kings, Warriors and Heat in his NBA career. The Florida State product, who assumes the role vacated by Nate Wolters, will be available for Wednesday's game against Oklahoma City.

Douglas will play in the Chinese Basketball Association this upcoming season, Sportando reports.

Douglas spent time last season with both the Warriors and Heat, but failed to cement a role in either team's rotation. With minimal interest during free agency this summer, Douglas will reportedly sign for either the Shanghai Sharks or Sichuan Blue Whales in China. Should he impress, it's possible Douglas could land on an NBA roster ahead of the playoffs, although that probably represents the best-case scenario for the declining reserve guard.

Toney Douglas played 35 minutes in a start at shooting guard on Monday with 14 points, three boards, three assists, two steals and one 3-pointer.

The Heat have nothing to play for on Wednesday and Douglas could be looking at big minutes against a hapless Sixers defense. If you're feeling saucy, he's a decent player to use in the season finale, especially if Mario Chalmers also sits.

Toney Douglas will replace Dwayne Wade (hamstring) in the starting lineup for Sunday's game vs. the Knicks.

Douglas' numbers as a starter aren't very impressive (6.0 points, 2.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds) so you'd have to be in a fairly deep league to use him as a plug-and-play option. There are nine games this Sunday, so you can probably find a better option on the wire.
