Asik has agreed to a deal with the Pelicans, John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Asik's contract will be five years and $60 million. He was valuable alongside Anthony Davis, averaging 7.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in 26 minutes per game for 76 games. Marc Stein reports that the final year of the contract is not guaranteed for Asik.

Asik is finalizing a five-year deal with the Pelicans, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports.

Asik was traded from Houston to New Orleans last offseason and averaged 7.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in 26 minutes per game through 76 games in 2014-15. He proved valuable as a rebounder and defender alongside Anthony Davis. His role will likely stay the same next season.

Asik shined as a rebounder and defensive force in his first season with the Pelicans after being traded by Houston in exchange for a first round pick last offseason. He averaged 7.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 26 minutes per game through 76 games played in 2014-15.

Asik was brought into New Orleans before the 2014-15 season to start at center alongside superstar Anthony Davis. Asik's role as a rebounder and big-bodied defender in the paint was clear. He finished 11th in the league in rebounds per game and top five in rebound rate. Despite his impressive rebounding numbers, Asik's fantasy value is limited by his lack of offensive production and shaky free-throw shooting, just 58 percent from the line this season. Asik is a great asset to have on an NBA team thanks to his rebounding and defense, but he's not as valuable in terms of fantasy. He'll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and with the addition of new head coach Alvin Gentry, Asik's future and/or role as a Pelican is unclear.

Asik exited Monday's Game 2 against the Warriors to receive stitches on his neck but has returned to start the second half, sideline reporter Jennifer Hale reports.

The laceration on Asik's neck obviously won't be much of concern moving forward since he managed to get back on the court after a few minutes of time spent in the locker room. Barring an unforeseen issue with his stitches, he's expected to perform his normal role in the second half of Game 2.

Asik had six points (3-5 FG), six rebounds, two assists, one steal and four turnovers in 26 minutes against the Rockets on Wednesday.

He averages 26 minutes per game this season, so him playing exactly 26 in his return is a good sign. He's not a stat stuffer and should be left on the wire, except for deeper leagues.

Asik (calf) said he'll play in Wednesday's game against the Rockets, the New Orleans Advocate's Darrell J. Williams reports.

He has missed the last two games with a calf strain, but his imposing presence will be back for the Pelicans as every game must feel like a must-win scenario for them at this point. They are three and a half games out of the final spot in the Western Conference playoffs with just 12 games to play, and if they are eliminated, we might see a lot of the Pelicans who have been playing through injuries get some rest.

Asik (calf) is officially listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Rockets.

Asik returned to practice Tuesday but he'll need to get through Wednesday's morning shootaround before he's allowed to take the court against the Rockets. In the event that he's not given the green light, Alexis Ajinca could see added playing time.

Asik (calf) practiced Tuesday, John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Asik missed the last two games with a strained calf, but he seems like a decent bet to return for Wednesday's game against the Rockets. With their chances to earn a playoff spot starting to slip away, the Pelicans are in no position to take a cautious approach. If Asik returns, Alexis Ajinca may see his minutes fall back into the teens.

Asik (calf) is listed as day-to-day in advance of Wednesday's game versus the Rockets, the New Orleans Times Picayune reports.

Absent two consecutive contests due to a right calf strain, Asik is seemingly in limbo heading into Wednesday. If he fails to receive clearance to play, he'll likely yield the start at center to Alexis Ajinca.
